Level 5 Update -- Doug Lee Gets Warning, Busts Anyway
Apr 19, '09
Level: 5
Blinds: 300-600 with a 75 ante
Notable Chip Counts:
Mark Seif -- 220,000
Shawn Cunix -- 211,000
Shannon Shorr -- 210,000
Matt Vengrin -- 205,000
Francois Safieddine -- 200,000
Notable Eliminations:
Lyle Berman
Allen Cunningham
Clonie Gowen
Doug Lee
Key Hands:
Tony Cousineau Bluffs!
The board read Q 7 5 6 and Mizrachi bet 4,000. Tony Cousineau raised to 15,000 and Mizrachi called. The river was the 3 and Mizrachi checked. Cousineau moved all in for about 32,000 and Mizrachi went into the tank.
Mizrachi was so confused that he flipped a coin to make his decision. Despite the fact that the flip told him to call, he eventually folded and Cousineau revealed A-J high for a busted flush draw. He now has about 75,000 in chips.
Shawn Cunix Cashes In Against Jimmy Fricke
Jimmy Fricked raised to 2,000 and was called by a couple players. The flop came A 8 4 and Fricke continued with a bet of 9,500. Cunix made the call and the turn was the 9. Fricke bet 18,000 and Cunix called. The river was the 9 and Fricke bet 35,000.
Cunix made the call and showed A Q for top pair and Fricke mucked his hand, putting him at just 40,000 in chips. Cunix now has 210,000.
Doug Lee Celebrates Too Soon
Doug Lee was all in against Zach Hyman and Jimmy Fricke before the river. When the river put a spade flush out there, Doug Lee celebrated by clapping his hands together, obviously informing the two others players he made his hand, killing their side action. Fricke and Hyman check it down and Lee shows the nut flush.
Despite tripling up on the hand, Lee was eliminated just a few hands later.

I Gotta Get to a Meeting
Jul 16, '08
Zach Hyman had been concerned when he made Day 4 of the Bellagio Cup that he would miss an important business meeting back home San Francisco. After a creative phone call to his office, Hyman was cleared to play today. Unfortunately for him, his day didn't last long and he can now rush to the airport.
Hyman had a bit of a slow summer, cashing once at the WSOP for about $8,000. His cash here certainly takes some of the sting out of that dry spell.

Hoyt Corkins - 155,000
Average Stack: 167,700
Eliminations:
Alex Kravchenko - 27th
Tim Kasparoff - 28th
Zachary Hyman - 29th
Big Hands and Storylines:
They’re In The Money
The bubble burst after only 5 hands of hand-for-hand play and the unfortunate bubble boy was Tim Kasparoff. Kasparoff got his money all-in against Tommy Hang in a race-situation: Kasparoff’s 88 against Hang’s A10. The flop was 432, opening up 4 more outs for Hang, but he wouldn’t need them, as he spiked the 10 on the turn. The river blanked and Kasparoff busted one out of the money.
This was welcome news to both Patrick Bueno and Alex Kravchenko who, seated at the same table, had been blinded down to critical levels. In one hand, Bueno committed 15,000 preflop against Michael Mizrachi and folded to a single bet from “the Grinder” on the flop, leaving himself a paltry 9,000.
Kravchenko too was spendthrift during hand-for-hand play. Folding both his small blind and big blind to raises, the Russian was left clutching a stack of only 6,000 when the bubble burst. Not surprisingly, he was eliminated in 27th place, but I’m sure the $20,492 will be consolation enough after coming so close to busting empty-handed.
Not everybody was trying to crawl into the money. Aaron Katz and Matt Woodward tangled in a big pot a few minutes before hand-for-hand play began. Woodward raised to 10,000 from middle position and Katz called in the big blind. Katz check-raised the J33 flop and Woodward paid to see the turn. It was the K and Katz bet out, though Woodward raised, Katz was not deterred, putting in a third bet. Woodward called, then called another bet on the river 7. He was dismayed when Katz showed A3 and dragged the massive pot.
Woodward would make a bit of that money back later when the flop nailed his Q8. Zachary Hyman, holding JJ, could not lay down his holding on a board of QQ9 and was eliminated in 29th place.

$2,500 Pot-Limit Hold'em/Omaha - Level 11 Recap
Jun 13, '08
Blinds: Hold'em 600-1,200, Omaha 400-800
Players Remaining: 50 of 457
Average Chip Stack: 45,700
Eliminations:
Erik Seidel
Jordan Morgan
Big Hands and Storylines:
Hold'em
Morgan dominated and out
Jordan Morgan, short-stacked, moved all in with Q-T and was called by two players with A-Q. The board didn't help Morgan and he was out. Earlier in the level he had run into aces to lose most of his chips.
Cunningham pays off bet on river
With the board T848K, an early position player bet 6,500 into Allen Cunningham. Cunningham took some time to think it over and made the call. His opopnent told him pocket jacks and as he flipped them over Cunningham seemed shocked. After the hand both players had roughly 40,000 chips.
Omaha
Hyman takes big pot on flop
John-Paul Kelly made a pot-sized raise to 3,500 from late position, and then Zach Hyman made a pot-sized reraise to 11,000 from the big blind. Kelly thought for two minutes before making the call. The flop came KQ3 and Hyman took his time and counted out his chips before betting pot. Kelly again took a few minutes to make his decision. Hyman had roughly 16,000 chips left, so he most likely committed to the hand. Finally Hyman stood up and told Kelly good luck, and just seconds later Kelly folded.
