Rasputin Lives!
Jun 20, '08
Blinds: 25-50
Entrants: 550
Eliminations: Allen Kessler
Big Hands:
Early Raises At Stacked Table
Three poker heavyweights collided with raises and reraises on a flop of 544. Burt Boutin led out for 300 and was called by recent bracelet winner Scott Seiver. Next to act was Thomas Wahlroos, who raised to 1,200. Boutin let go of his hand but Seiver reraised yet again to 2,500, prompting Wahlroos to nod in belief that Seiver had a hand and muck his cards. Seiver took a nice early pot, increasing his stack by 1,500.
Off To A Good Start
After early eliminations in recent tournaments, Juha Helppi is off to a good start in this one. Helppi bet 325 from the button on a flop of A83 after the big blind checked to him. The big blind called and the turn was the 8. Action was again checked to Helppi who bet 525. This time the big blind folded and Helppi took the early pot.
O'Donnell Gets Caught
Kevin O'Donnell pushed all in after the river on a board of 86293 and was called by his seat 7 opponent. His opponent turned over two red tens. "Nice call," said O'Donnell, who flashed an ace and a queen before tossing his cards into the muck. O'Donnell's down to only a few hundred in chips.
Filippi Doubles Through Olson
Amnon Filippi was all in on the turn on a board of 10662 and Carl Olson called with pocket aces. Filippi tabled 108 for tens up with a flush draw, but a severe underdog to Olson. The 7 on the river made Filippi's hand, however, doubling him up to about 3,000 and taking a bite out of Olson's stack. Olson is down to about 1,500.
Slotboom Doubles Up
Rolf Slotboom moved all in over the top of a pot-sized bet of 1,650 after a flop of QJ5. Slotboom only had about 600 more and was quickly called by his seat 2 opponent. "Just aces," said Slotboom. "You probably have queen jack or something like that." In reality his opponent held AQ, the turn and the river bricked, and Slotboom chipped up to almost 5,000.
Kessler Busted
Seat 8 raised before the flop and Allen Kessler called out of the small blind. The flop was K85 and Kessler checked. The original raiser bet 400 and Kessler called. A seven hit on the turn and again Kessler checked, and again seat 8 fired. Kessler moved all in and seat 8 snap-called, showing 97 for a straight flush draw with a pair of sevens. Kessler tabled ace king, ahead--until the river, when the 3 spiked to make the seat 8 player his flush and bounce Kessler from the tournament.

14th – Thomas Wahlroos
15th – Tino Lechich
16th – Nathan Doudney
17th – Jerrod Ankenman
18th – Steve Saris
Big Hands and Storylines:
Kyle Kloeckner Eliminates Nathan Doudney
Tim West Raised to 35,000 pre-flop and was called by Kyle Kloeckner, Nathan Hagens, and Nathan Doudney. On a flop of 633, West checked, Kloeckner checked, and Hagens checked. When action came around to Doudney, he didn’t think for too long before betting 100,000. West quickly folded, but Klockner, perhaps suspecting Doudney of a steal, raised to 300,000. Hagens folded and Doudney quickly moved all-in for his final 60,000. Kloeckner, priced in, made the call with KJJ9. Doudney turned over a full house: 6375. Kloeckner, drawing to only a jack, had scarcely asked his tablemates if any of them had folded a jack when the dealer flipped up the turn: J! Things had turned upside-down for Doudney and now he was looking for the last trey in the deck to win the pot. Not only was the river not the case trey to save Doudney, but it was the case jack.
I guess that answers Kloeckner’s question.
After raking in the pot and stacking his chips, it appears that Kloeckner is our new chip leader with 865,000.
Thomas Wahlroos Eliminates Tino Lechich
Thomas Wahlroos raised to 35,000 pre-flop and Francisco Azares made it 110,000. Tino Lechich said, “Alright. You’ve got one.” Before moving his final 50,000 all-in. Wahlroos chimed in, “You’ve got two,” and, covered by Azares’s bet, moved all-in. The three revealed their hands:
Azares: KK52
Lechich: AKJJ
Wahlroos: AA102
The flop was a very safe one for Wahlroos: 993. The turn 6 was nearly as innocuous, though it gave Azares a gutshot straight-draw. When the river blanked, Wahlroos was jolted up to 190,000 while Azares was left with only 90,000; Azares would be eliminated only a short time later.
Michael Guzzardi Eliminates Thomas Wahlroos
Michael Guzzardi raised to 25,000 from early position and was called by three players: Thomas Wahlroos in late position, and Layne Flack and Kevin O’Donnell in the blinds. The flop came Q106 and the blinds checked. Guzzardi bet 65,000 and Wahlroos almost instantly moved his stack of 163,000 into the pot. Flack insta-folded but O’Donnell had a much tougher decision to make. “I wish I knew the math like you guys. I should have gone to school,” said O’Donnell. Eventually O’Donnell folded, and that decision turned out to be the right one as Guzzardi called and showed AJ87 for the nut flush. Wahlroos showed QQ77 for top set, and was hoping to fill up on a later street. Unfortunately for Wahlroos the turn and river came 8 and 2 and, not long after his double-up, he was eliminated. Guzzardi now has 810,000 in chips.

Eliminations: Clonie Gowen, Kevin O'Donnell
Big Hands:
Gowen Finished
Clonie Gowen raised to 2,100 under the gun and was raised to 4,000 by Slava "Fredie1" Mostob on the button. Gowen pushed all-in which cost Mostob just 500 for the call. Gowen showed king-jack while Mostob had ace-queen. A 10-high flop was followed by a nine on the turn that left Gowen needing any face card to stay alive, but a harmless three on the river sealed her fate.
O'Donnell Caught Making a Move
Kevin O'Donnell enjoyed a solid start to the tournament, but 15 minutes into level 7 was crippled when he made a big bet onto a board of Q944. His opponent called all-in for 8,300 and showed 910, while O'Donnell held JK for two overcards and a straight draw. The A on the river left O'Donnell with just 1,500 in chips.
Tran Busts Two
J.C. Tran busted a pair of opponents, including O'Donnell. A short-stacked big blind moved all-in, short-stacked O'Donnell called all-in, and Tran made it a three-way pot. Tran held A-9 to dominate O'Donnell's A-6, while the big blind showed K-Q. An ace on the river alowed Tran's hand to remain the best.
Eugene Todd Takes a Hit
Todd called a pre-flop raise of 3,000, which left both he and his opponent with between 12,000 and 15,000 in chips. After a flop of 1072, his opponent bet 6,000 and Todd reluctantly folded while showing A-K offsuit, but not a heart to be found.
Tran Stack Losing Ground
J.C. Tran bet 3,200 pre-flop and was called by the button. A flop of K82 was checked by both players, and Tran bet out 2,000 on the turn when the K paired the board. The button called again, and the 4 on the river was again checked. Tran showed ace-high while the button turned over 77. Tran is now down to 11,100 in chips.
Scott Seiver Regains His Footing
Scott "gunning4you" Seiver vaulted back into contention with a 45,000 pot win. A flop of QQ10 was followed by the 4 on the turn and 5 on the river. Seiver bet 11,200 after the river with 64 and was called by his opponent who held AQ.
Singer Carries a Winning Tune
David Singer made a 3,000 call into a flop of 1042 after his opponent moved all-in. The player showed AQ while Singer flipped over 33. The 9 on the turn and A on the river gave Singer a victorious flush and increased his chip stack to 58,000.

How Do You Like 'Dem Apples?
Mickey Appleman open raised all-in for 550, only 350 more than the blind. The player in the big blind made the obligatory call and showed 85, trailing Appleman's AK. The dealer laid out AAKJJ. Appleman doubled up to 1200 chips.
Boyd Don't Budge
From the cutoff seat, a player raised to 550 and Dutch Boyd calls from the small blind. The flop showed 1076. Boyd checked, the cutoff bet 650 and Boyd called. Both players checked after the 8 appeared on the turn, but Boyd led our for another 650 when the J came on the river. The player folded and Boyd added the pot to his growing stack.
Clements Bids Farewell
Scott Clements reraised the pot to 1350. The flop came J 10 7 rainbow and Clements got it all in with AK only to have his opponent call with A-J. The turn and river bricked and Clements was eliminated early after the break.
A New, Stacked Table
After the tables broke, Jennifer Tilly, Jeffrey Lisandro, JC Tran, Kevin O'Donnell, and Bart Hansen were all seated at the same table. Tran won a couple of early, smallish battles against Tilly, who got her chips back a couple of hands later when she raised O'Donnell on a flop of J65 after he led out in first position. Tilly is up to more than 20,000, near the top of tournament leaders.
Sebok Busted
Sebok got it all in on a flop of AJ10 with the 106, drawing slim against his opponent's AJ--and drawing slimmer when the A peeled off on the turn.

Hour Five Update; Almost There
Jun 23, '07
Yuval Bronstein continues to barrel through the competition, and most of the remaining players will be glad when play stops for the night and his momentum is halted.
Kevin O'Donnell went all in against Bronstein with A Q , but Bronstein was way ahead A K . O'Donnell flopped four to the flush, but bricked out on the last two cards. He was eliminated in 14th place earning $9,812.
T.J. Cloutier was also a victim of Bronstein. Cloutier moved in with A-8, and Bronstein called with pocket tens. Cloutier caught an eight on the flop and an Ace on the turn, but Bronstein caught a ten on the river to eliminate Cloutier in 11th place. Cloutier narrowly missed his first oppurtunity to add to his the record of all-time World Series final table appearances, and to take back the record outright from Phil Hellmuth, who tied him a few days ago. Cloutier earned $10,902 for his efforts.
The final ten players have now been combined to the final table and will play until one more is eliminated.
