David Arsht Wins Event no. 13 ($211,921)Jun 08, '12 Level: 27 Blinds: 20,000-40,000 Live Updates: Arsht Pulls Away With the Chip Lead David Arsht entered the level as the chipleader with 925,000 but quickly extend his lead over the field after winning a 650,000 showdown against Stephen Hung with A8 on an 884 flop. Arsht moved up to about 1,2000,000 that hand while knocking Hung down to just about 500,000 (12 bbs). Arsht then went on to win another 600,000 showdown with J10 after flopping a ten and turning a jack to crack Donald Auger’s KK with two pair. Arsht continued to widen the gap that hand where the ended with about 1.9 million, leaving Auger on the short stack with just 6 big blinds. Arsht made quick work of his last three opponents as he began to dominate the field as the level came to an end. He first busted both Al Barbieri and Donald Auger on the same hand when his pocket sevens held up to best Auger’s pocket sixes and Barbieri’s J-10. Al Barbieri Elimianted in 3rd Place ($84,388) David Arsht opened the pot for 80,000, Donald Auger moved all in, Al Barbieri called, Arsht reraised enough to put Barbieri all in and Barbieri called. Both Barbieri and Auger were all in for their tournament life and behind Arsht’s pocket pair with two overs and an under pair. Arsht: 77 Board: 64258 Auger flopped top set to take the lead, but Arsht went runner-runner to make a straight on the river and eliminate both players in the very same hand. Donald Auger was eliminated in 4th place ($61,820) and Al Barbieri was eliminated in 3rd place ($84,388) while David Arsht took a commanding lead going into heads-up play with roughly 2,750,000 to Stephen Hung’s 550,000 David Arsht Wins Event no. 13 ($211,921) Stephen Hung entered heads-up play severely out chipped by by 5:1 and with only 13 big blinds. On the final hand of the night, David Arsht opened the pot for 80,000 from the button and Stephen Hung called from the big blind. The flop came QJ6, Hung checked, Arsht bet 40,000 and Hung called. The turn was the Q, Hung moved all in after a series of raises and Arsht called. Hung was all in for his tournament life and behind on the turn with Q3 for trip queens against Arsht’s Q10 for trip queens with a higher kicker. The river was the 4 and Arsht’s kicker played to win the pot and eliminate Stephen Hung in 2nd place ($130,903). David Arsht wins Event no.13, taking home the $211,921 grand prize and the thirtieth gold bracelet of the 2012 WSOP. Engelbert lost most his chip in a showdown to chipleader David Arsht who rivered a king to leave Engelbert with only 6,000 after he opted to just call the 50,000 river bet rather than move all in for 56,000. While Engelbert was left with less than one-fifth of a single big blind, Arsht padded his chip lead with about 1.6 million after the hand. Engelbert managed to find a quick triple up a few hands later but Al Barbieri finally got him after Engelbert shoved his last few chips in the middle before the flop and ran into Barbieri’s pocket tens. The board bricked nine-high with a pair of fives and Barbieri’s tens held up. Glenn Engelbert was eliminated in 5th place ($45,953). Al Barbieri opened for a raise to 40,000 and Lori Kirgan called all in for 38,000. Lori Kirgan was all in for her tournament life with AJ against Barbieri’s 44. The board came K3256, offering no help to Lori Kirgan who was eliminated in 9th place ($15,886). Alexander Queen Eliminated in 8th Place ($20,370) Al Barbieri opened the cutoff for 40,000, Alexander Queen three-bet to 60,000 and Barbieri called. The flop came 865, Bariberi checked, Queen bet 20,000 and Baribieri called. The turn was the 9, Barbieri bet 40,000, Queen raised all in and Barbieri called. Barbieri was ahead on the turn with A7 for a made straight against Queen’s top set with 99. The river was the J and Alexander Queen was eliminated in 8th place ($20,370). That hand gave Barbieri the current chip lead with about 850,000. Jeff Weiss Eliminated in 7th Place ($26,401) David Arsht opened the pot for 40,000 from middle position, Jeff Weiss called from the small blind and Al Barbieri called the big blind. Cahail was all in after that call and here were their boards: Cahail: (649)A10J4 Barbieri started with kings in the hole but improved to a diamond flush on the river and Cahail was the second player eliminated from the final table. Andrew Revesz Eliminated In Sixth Place ($38,698) Andrew Revesz had a severe short stack and put it all in against Hani Awad and Konstantin Puchkov in Stud 8-or-better. Puchkov and Awad bet on the side until seventh street when a Punchkov bet drew a fold from Awad. Punchkov showed a diamond flush while Revesz could only show a pair of threes and he was eliminated. Hani Awad Eliminated In Fifth Place ($53,386) Hani Awad and Al Barbieri got involved in a hand in Stud 8-or-better. Awad found himself all in of fifth street and was showing A23 and then caught a 2 on sixth street. Barbieri was ahead with his 7434 showing and turned over another four for trips. Awad confirmed he was drawing dead as he did not even look at his river card as he made his way to the rail. Ken Lennaard Eliminated In Fourth Place ($75,149) Ken Lennaard and Dustin Leary got involved in some Stud 8-or-better action that saw Lennaard all in by sixth street. There were 384 players who started on day 1, and 108 survived to day 2. Now, just 12 remain on the quest to WSOP gold, and there are some familiar faces in the bunch. Al Barbieri is the chip leader, with 415,000 in chips. Dutch Boyd and JJ Liu are also still alive in the event, both bringing a ton of final table experience with them. Here’s a look at the chip counts of the final 12:* 1. Al Barbieri — 415,000 Boyd won a WSOP bracelet in the 2006 $2,500 short-handed no limit hold’em event. Many other tough players began day 2 but didn’t make it through, like Justin Bonomo, Phil Gordon, Rafe Furst, Shawn Buchanan and Michael Binger. He left as the first victim of the final table. Facing a pre-flop raise by Dutch Boyd, Barbieri put the remainder of his small stack all in and was called by by Boyd and Brian Meinders. On a flop of 974 Meinders checked to Boyd who bet. Meinders then check-raised, and Boyd re-raised again. Meinders put yet another raise in, building a massive pot and Boyd called. On the 7 turn Meinders kept firing and Boyd called. The 10 landed on the river and Boyd called Meinders’ final bet. Their cards: Meinders: 4-4 Meinders took down the big pot and saw his stack pass the 1 million mark, expanding his chip lead. Barbieri was gone in 6th place, taking $30,399.
