Big Hands:
Mueller Wins Another Round
Greg Mueller and Humberto Brenes are among the chip leaders and seated at the same table. With A44 through fifth street, Mueller was in control of the betting and drawing calls. Mueller double-paired on sixth street with the A, while Brenes now showed K1032, still enough to call another 800 bet. Both players checked after seventh street, at which point Mueller showed a wired pair of 10s. "I had you even before the ace," said Mueller. Brenes simply mucked his hand.
Singer In Trouble, Then Busted
David Singer was battling heads-up and through fifth street showed A3J. He bet 800 and drew a call. Singer added the 4 on sixth street and bet another 800, again getting a call. His opponent showed Q874. Singer checked on seventh street and his opponent bet out 800. Singer, with just 1400 in chips after his failed stabs on the pot, laid his hand down. He was eliminated just a few hands later.
Hennigan Utilizes Stack
Few want to mess with one of the chip leaders in John Hennigan. After an initial bring-in for 100, a player showing the K made it 400 to play. Hennigan, with the A, made it 800 to go, despite an ace earlier being mucked by a player. Everyone folded to the power move.
Men Nguyen Lays it Down
Men Nguyen limped along for 100 with the 9 showing, then called a complete to 400 by a player showing 10. Both hands became stronger on fourth street, Nguyen adding the A and betting 400, seat 8 adding the J and calling. The paint continued on fifth street and Nguyen now showed AK9. He checked to his opponent, now with 10JQ on board. The player bet, and Nguyen laid his hand down.
Eskimo Misses
Eskimo Clarke brought in for 100 with the 4 and had three other stragglers come along for the minimum price. Fourth and fifth streets were checked, then on sixth street the player in seat 4 paired up and showed 8K7K. All others folded and Clarke made the call with Q754. After viewing their cards on seventh street, seat 4 bet out and Clarke laid his hand down.
No Help for Ivey
Phil Ivey committed his final 700 in chips on fifth street while showing 964. His lone caller showed AKJ. The player then revealed the J in the hole for a pair, and Ivey never caught up.
