Dragan Galic – 300,500 Notable Eliminations: Tom McEvoy Big Hands Veldhuis Uses Rags to Make Rich Facing a raise to 1,600, Lex Veldhuis reraised to 4,250 only to have the big blind move all in for 14,350. The original raiser got out of the way but Veldhuis called. Their hands: Veldhuis: 98 Veldhuis nailed the flop of 975 and the big blind found no help from the 7 turn and 2 river. Veldhuis eliminated his opponent and chipped back up to 96,500. South Soars With Set Over Set With a flop of A95 on a pot worth 16,500 already, all three players checked around to see the 2 land on the turn. The first player bet, the second called, and Cole South moved all in. Both players called and a massive pot was brewing. Their hands: South: AA South had flopped top set and his opponent had second set. The river bricked and South took down a massive pot to grow his stack to 223,500. Rasmussen Chips Up, Knocks Out Player Thayer Rasmussen got an opponent all in preflop and showed pocket jacks to his opponent’s pocket nines. The board ran AK375 and Rasmussen’s jacks held to eliminate him opponent and chip up to 96,000. Baron Gets It In Good, Gets Unlucky Isaac Baron raised to 1,700 from middle position and was three-bet by a player in the blinds to 4,800. Baron asked how much he had left, and after getting an answer, he made the call. The flop was 938 and the player in the blinds checked over to Baron. Baron bet 4,800 and was check-raised to 15,000. Baron bet enough to put the player all-in and he called, putting in his last 30,950 on the flop. Baron showed 33, giving him a set and the all-in player held JJ. The turn was the 10, but the river was the J, giving the player in the blinds a bigger set and taking the pot. Baron dropped to 35,000 after the hit. Glantz Makes a Good Fold Matt Glantz called a bet of 2,200 on the turn from his opponent with the board reading AJA5. The river was the Q and the other player in the hand gently places an orange chip worth 5,000 onto the felt. Glantz quickly released his hand. It was a good decision since the player showed him one card – the A. Glantz is still hovering right around his 30,000 original starting stack. Mizrachi Grinding Back Up On a three-way flop of Q45 the small blind bet 1,500 and Michael Mizrachi called from the big blind. The third player in the hand raised to 8,400 and the small blind folded but Mizrachi called. On the 3 turn both players checked, but on the 3 river Mizrachi bet big — 20,000 to be exact. His opponent called and the Grinder showed 63 for a flopped straight draw that turned into trip threes on the river. After a rough start to the day, Mizrachi took the pot and boosted his stack to 97,000. Pham Busts With Aces David Pham raised to 1,525 and another player reraised to 4,525. Pham quickly moved over the top all in for not much more. His opponent called. Their hands: Pham: AA Pham had his opponent dominated, that is until the board ran out 10QKJ to give Pham’s opponent the straight, then the 7 river added an unnecessary flush, cracking Pham’s aces and sending him to the rail. Pham ended the 2010 WSOP with just one cash. Check out his results here. Ho Staying Alive, Doubles Maria Ho got all in for 15,225 preflop against one opponent. Their hands: Ho: AK Ho was a big favorite, and the low board kept it that way, running 68632. Ho’s hand took down the pot and she doubled to around 31,000. Seiver Takes It Picking up the action on the turn, the board read 93210. Scott Seiver checked and his opponent did the same. The river was the J and both players checked again. Seiver tabled 98 for a pair of nines. His opponent mucked and Seiver took down the pot. He was at 72,000 after the hand. Naujoks Can’t Stand Check-Raise After one player checked, Ralph Perry bet 5,000 on a flop of J62. Sandra Naujoks made the call in position and the other player folded. The turn was the 3 and Perry checked. Naujoks fired 5,000 and Perry came back with a check-raise to 15,000. Naujoks went into the tank for a minute or so before releasing her hand. She slipped to 40,000 while Perry climbed to 140,000. Ted Forrest Eliminated Ted Forrest got all of his chips in preflop with 55 against his opponents AK. After the ESPN cameras got there, the dealer put out a flop of Q102, giving his opponent a ton of outs to improve. The K on the turn gave his opponent the best hand and left Forrest with one out. The A on the river gave the pot to his opponent and Forrest was eliminated. If you check out the Card Player poker odds calculator, you can see that even though the A-K didn’t pair up on the flop, it was still a statistical favorite to win the hand. Forrest is eliminated from the main event and this caps off a very disappointing series for Forrest, who only made one cash in 2010, in the $2,500 2-7 triple draw lowball event for $9,972. Left in the Deck: Seiver Has a Future In Curling After passing by Scott Seiver’s table, we overheard him talking with David Bach about making a run at the U.S. Olympic Curling team. “I have alot of bowling experience,” said Bach. “That should give me an edge.” “It probably does, we would just have to figure out who is going to sweep,” replied Seiver. There was a joking tone, but it wouldn’t surprise us to see those two on the ice in four years. The turn was the 4, giving the big blind the nut-flush draw. Sure enough, the river was the 2 and Kassela joined the small blind on the rail. With his cash, Kassela locked up at least a share of the 2010 WSOP Player of the Year award. If Michael Mizrachi does not win the main event, Kassela will claim the award outright. The board ran out 7910QJ and Mercier doubled the player up to over 400,000 and Mercier was left with just 90,000. Brown Cracks a Million Matthew Brown cracked the one million chip mark when he got his opponent to move all-in with AQ and he called with 1010. The board came 94542 and Brown’s pair held up and he moved up to 1,030,000. Smith Moves All-in and Survives Action folded to Gavin Smith in middle position and he moved all of his 43,000 chips into the middle and everybody folded around to the blinds. Both players contemplated calling, but eventually folded. Smith showed KK while he picked up the blinds and antes and is around 57,000. South Drops One Cole South raised from the cutoff and the small blind called. Both players checked the flop of QJJ. The 4 came on the turn and the small blind checked over to South, who bet 18,500. The small blind made it 45,000 and South put in another raise to 138,000. The small blind made the call and they saw the 9 come on the river. Both players checked and the small blind showed A10, giving him an ace-high flush. South went to go muck his hand, but one of the players at the table asked to see his hand so the dealer flipped up the K5, giving him the king-high flush. Player Doubles Up Through Phillips With over 100,000 in the middle, the board read 87Q4 and Carter Phillips bet 63,000. His opponent moved all-in for 215,000 more. Phillips made the call after a while with A8 and his opponent showed AQ. The 7 on the river and Phillips slipped to 225,000. Dunst Chips Up Without Showdown The flop was A109 and Tony Dunst bet out 3,500, which was called by his opponent. The 5 came on the turn and both players checked to see 6 peel off on the river. Dunst moved all-in for 190,000 and his opponent thought for quite some time before folding. Dunst moved up to 565,000 with the pot. Shorr Picks On a Girl Lauren Kling raised to 10,000 from middle position and Shannon Shorr three-bet to 28,000 next to act. Kling made it 60,000 to go and Shorr went into the tank. One player called and then Chad Wutke reshoved for 120,000 more to isolate Boatman. It worked as the other player mucked and Wutke tabled 99 for an overpair. Boatman tabled 65 for an inside straight draw. The turn and river each added a queen to the board, bricking out for Boatman and he was eliminated early on. Shorr-line Drive Picking up the action after the board had run out 33243 a player was all in for 30,000. Shannon Shorr was putting him at risk with pocket jacks and they held up against the ace-king of the all in player. Shorr scored the knockout and he was at 431,500. Duke Slips Picking up the action after the flop came down QQ9, the cutoff fired 7,400 and Annie Duke made the call from the button. The turn was the K and both players checked. The river was 8 and the action was checked to Duke. She bet 11,000 and the cutoff made the call. Duke mucked as her opponent showed AK for two pair. She was down to about 140,000. Schoenberg Folds to Aggression The player under-the-gun raised to 7,500 and the player in the cutoff made the call. Erica Schoenberg was in the small blind and decided to make it an additional 16,000. The under-the-gun player called and the cutoff tanked for two minutes before making the fold. The flop came 963 and Schoenberg led out for 26,500. After just a few seconds, her opponent made it 65,500, which essentially put Schoenberg to a decision for her stack. The turn was the 9, which gave his opponent a lesser set, and one out going to the river. The river was the 4 and Greenstein doubled up to 158,000. South’s Stack Moves South Cole South raised to 5,500 and called a three-bet to 17,500 from the player on the button. The flop came Q62 and both players checked. The turn was the 8 and South checked and called a bet of 25,000 from his opponent. The river was the J and both players checked again. South showed pocket nines, but his opponent got there on the river when he showed the J9. South now has 457,000 in chips. Cunningham Gets Rockets to Double Allen Cunningham scored a double up when he got all-in preflop with AA and his opponent held AK. The board ran out 103585 and Cunningham doubled up to 175,000. Savage Eliminated Vitaly Lunkin raised to 6,000 under-the-gun and Matt Savage moved all-in for his last 35,000. It folded to David Frazee on the button who moved all-in over the top and had Lunkin covered. Lunkin went deep into the tank for quite a while. Eventually, after double checking his cards, he tossed his hand into the muck. Frazee and Savage went to showdown and Savage didn’t like what he saw. Savage had AQ and was up against Frazee’s KK. The board came out 29562 and Savage was eliminated. But his stack gradually started dwindling away. In consecutive hands he lost to Chris Ferguson and then he ran into Cole South’s AA on his final hand. First, on a board of QJ7K5 Ferguson and Seiver had built a sizeable pot before both checked the end. Ferguson showed 1010 and Seiver mucked. Ferguson had around 230,000 after the hand. But Seiver was about to run into an even larger pair on the next hand. Seiver raised to 30,000 and South reraised. Seiver called and the flop came KQ9. South bet 30,000 and Seiver called. The same happened on the 7 turn and after the 10 river Seiver called, putting himself all in. South turned over AA and Seiver responded with, “Really?” He mucked his hand and wished the players luck as he left the table. South had around 650,000 after the hand. 7-Stud Nguyen Runs Out of Magic And Into Mosseri’s Straight Flush Scotty Nguyen couldn’t double, or triple, up another time, instead running into Abe Mosseri’s straight flush. The hands were: Razz Still going strong in the event, Andy Bloch raised with his 4 to get the action started. Doyle Burnson joined the fun with the 7 showing. Scott tabled KJ while Zsolt showed KQ. The flop came down 1064 and Scott held a flush draw. The turn was money for her as the 10 fell and the A fell on the river for good measure. She doubled up to 270,000. Moments later, Bob Lauria moved in for 170,000 preflop and Scott made the call. Lauria tabled AK but was in big trouble against Scott’s pocket aces, AA. The flop came down Q910 and Lauria flopped tons of outs to a straight or club flush. The turn was the 4, making the flush and the river was the J to rub it in Scott’s face. Lauria doubled up and Scott was crippled with just 90,000 left. Later, Kara Scott moved in for just 70,000 and was called by Paul Baron. Baron tabled 53 while Scott held A2. The board ran out Q5659 and Scott was eliminated. Bob Lauria Doubles Bob Lauria moved all in for his final 107,000 and Ian Woodley made the call. Lauria showed AQ while Woodley tabled K6. The board ran out KQ2A2 and Lauria doubled to about 220,000. Nick Binger Eliminated Nick Binger raised preflop and Montagna Corrado repopped to 60,000. Action folded back around to Binger who moved in for 125,000 more. Corrado made the call and tabled KK. Binger showed down A10 and needed help to stay alive. The board ran out 63295 and Binger was elilminated from the main event. Cole South Hits an Ace on the River After a series of raises preflop, Cole South called the all in bet of his opponent who had about 200,000, and the hands were turned face up. South showed the AQ and was up against QQ of his opponent. The flop was 7K9, the turn was the K, and South would need an ace on the river for the win. The river was the A and South took the pot and eliminated an opponent. Action Dan Gets Caught Bluffing, Then Gets Shown The Door On the turn, with already over 400,000 in the pot already, the board read A10KK, both Dan Harrington and Charlie Elias checked and watched the 3 fall on the river. Dan Harrington then bet 350,000 on the river and Elias went into the tank for several minutes. After a while, Elias cut out the call and Harrington acknowledged the fact that Elias made a good call and tabled 89 and Elias turned up QQ. A few hands later, the flop was K92 and Eric Cloutier fired 180,000. Harrington moved in for 345,000 and the call was made. Cloutier held AK while Harrington was drawing live with AQ. But the turn was the 3 and the river was the 7 and Harrington could not make his flush, resulting in his elimination. He exited the Amazon Room to a standing ovation. Akenhead’s Kings Give Him the Chip Lead Eracles Panayiotous raised to 26,000 and was three-bet by James Akenhead to 80,000. Panayiotous made the call and the flop fell Q73 and Akenhead bet 130,000 and was called. The turn was the 8 and Akenhead bet 190,000 and was met with a raise to 430,000 from Panayiotous. Akenhead eventually makes the call and the K fell on the river. Akenhead checked and Panayiotous moved all in for about 800,000. Akenhead instantly made the call and tabled the KK, giving him top set and his opponent turned over 64, for an absolute air ball. Akenhead now has over 3,000,000 in chips and is the new chip leader for the tournament. Sebok Doubles Up With Big Slick, Proceeds to Bust Opponent Adam Lattimer raised to 26,000 and was reraised to 86,000 by Hieu Luu. Action was folded around to Joe Sebok who moved all in for 259,000. Lattimer eventually folded and Luu went into the tank. Luu eventually made the call, figuring he was priced in and showed a mere Q7 and was up against Sebok’s AK. The flop was 456, followed by the 7 on the turn, giving Luu a pair of sevens. Sebok was getting up out of his chair and putting on his jacket when the K hit the river and Sebok stayed alive. Moments later, Sebok called his opponent’s all in bet and tabled JJ. His opponent showed down 1010 and the board ran out QQ67Q, giving Sebok a better full house and the pot. He was at around 500,000. J.C. Tran Takes A Pot J.C. Tran raised to 24,000 preflop and was called by the big blind. The flop came down 1085 and action was checked to Tran. He bet out 30,000 and the big blind called. The turn was the Q and Tran fired 65,000. The big blind gave up his hand and Tran was at 260,000. Nicholle Peppe Takes A Massive 2.5 Million Pot Off Lutz On a flop of 1097, Tom Lutz bet 300,000 and Nicholle Peppe shoved for 1,099,000. Lutz made the call and the hands were turned over. Lutz: 108 Lutz gambled with his top pair and open-ended straight draw, but the turn was the 4 and the river was the 2 and Peppe doubled up in the biggest pot of the tournament.
