Michiel Sijpkens — 173,000 Card Player Family Chip Counts Jeff Shulman — 8,400 Big Hands: Vivek Makes Good Read, Bad Call Entering the action late, the dealer called for the floor as the clock had been called on Vivek Rajkumar. He was facing a 7,075 bet by seat 10 on a board of JKJ7A. “You now have one minute before your hand becomes…” tablemate David Chiu said before the floor staff could. Some players at the table laughed, but Rajkumar was busy talking out the hand and saying, “You might have aces.” After some time of deliberation, Rajkumar made the call and his opponent turned over his cards, stating, “You were right.” He showed AA for the full house. Vivek shook his head and had just around 8,000 left. Todd Brunson Loses a Pot Pavilion Room Coverage A player in middle position bet 750 and Todd Brunson made the call. The flop came K-10-4 and it was checked for a 4 turn. It was checked again for a 4 turn and checked again for a Q river. Brunson’s opponent bet 1,000 and Brunson diliberated before making the fold. The flop came 863 and the small blind checked. The small blind and the big blind checked. The limper bet 475 and both Moon and the small blind called. The turn brought the 10 and it was checked around. The 4 fell on the river and the small blind bet 1,250. Moon called and the limper folded. Moon tabled the 43 and took the pot. Moon was up to 49,450 after the hand. Greenstein Takes One Pavilion Room Coverage After the flop came down K108, Barry Greenstein bet 1,200. The player in seat 4 made the call and the turn was the 9. Greenstein fired 2,500 and his opponent mucked. Greenstein took the pot and he was at 37,000. Schwartz Takes a Major Hit Ylon Schwartz thought for a minute when facing a bet of 5,000 from seat 3 on a board showing 23J6. He eventually called and checked when the 2 hit on the river. Seat 3 bet 6,000 on the river and Schwartz looked pained, tanking long and hard. He finally called and seat 3 showed J10 for two pair. Schwartz quietly mucked, losing a 30,000 pot and dropping to 18,050 in chips. His opponent started to do the same, and Shulman reminded the dealer that the best hand is still supposed to be shown. The other player flashed a king, which was good enough. How To Blow $10,000 In Five Minutes “All in and a call!” Those were the words uttered just five minutes into the level as a player moved all in (for 300 big blinds) with AQ on a K108. He was called by a player holding KK for top set. The board finished off 6 and 3 and the first Day 1D casualty made his way to the exits four hands into play. Singer Gets One On the Turn Emmitt Smith Loses a Pot Emmitt Smith and an opponent were tangled up in a flop of 1094. Smith checked and his opponent bet 500. Smith called. His opponent checked behind and Smith announced that he had a straight. However, he tabled the K10 for just tens and queens. His opponent exposed the straight with the KJ and took the pot. Smith fell to 25,000 as a result of the hand. Left in the Deck A Tough Table John Juanda will need a first or second-place finish in the main event to catch Frank Kassela in the player of the year race. That would be a hard task regardless, but add the fact that he is seated right next to David Benyamine and the odds are even more difficult. A Reunion 2005 main event runner-up Steve Dannenmann has shown up and is in the field today. Interestingly enough, despite a massive field he is seated at the table right next to the table featuring the man who beat him that year, Joe Hachem. Featured Today The ESPN main stage is currently occupied by 2009 main event runner-up Darvin Moon. He has been hard to spot at this year’s WSOP but he is getting the bulk of the camera time today. On the outer ESPN stage is the Godfather himself, Doyle Brunson. At one of the outer feature tables is Vanessa Rousso, so these players should get plenty of airtime once the WSOP telecast rolls around. Jean Robert-Bellande Shows off for Cameras Action was on Jean-Robert Belande in a three-way pot on a flop of K-5-3. His opponents quickly folded and Bellande won the hand to increase his stack to about 50,000. No More Micon Bryan Micon put in a raise to 2,500 and was called by one player. The flop ran Q95 and Micon bet 3,700. His opponent made it 10,200 to go and Micon took some time to think it over. He eventually moved all in for about 40,000 and his opponent called. Their hands: Opponent: 78 Micon had a flopped set, but his opponent was drawing to all sorts of cards. One of those outs hit on the turn, as the 6 landed to give his opponent a straight.
