Mike Leah Eliminated by Kelly Kim
Oct 28, '09
We wandered over and saw that Mike Leah’s seat was open. When asked, Glen Chorny explained that his pocket nines ran into Kelly Kim’s pocket jacks and didn’t get any help from the board.
Leah is a Player of the Year candidate, but is quickly running out of time to make his run to the top of the leader board.

Burt Boutin Busts Jason Adler
Burt Boutin called the all in bet of Jason Adler preflop and the players turned up their hands.
Adler: 55
Boutin: AQ
The race was on and the flop came Q106, vaulting Boutin to the lead. The turn was the 4 and the river was the 8, giving Boutin the added bonus of knocking out Adler with a flush instead of just top pair.
Kelly Kim With The Cease Fire
With the pot around 125,000, the board had run out J53KJ. Kelly Kim was facing a 78,000 bet from his opponent and took a session in the tank. After much thought, Kim folded AA in disgust. He was down to just a little over 100,000.
Nick Schulman Drops Some Chips
Nick Schulman called Lance Gettler’s all-in bet preflop. Schulman was holding 55 while Gettler had AJ.
The race was on and the flop came down AJ8, giving Gettler two pair. The turn was the 7 and the river was the 10 and Schulman was down to 480,000.
Paul Wasicka Goes Bust
Paul Wasicka’s stack dropped below 100,000 during this level and he decided to move all in preflop holding AJ. He was then called by an opponent holding AK.
The flop came down A49, giving Wasicka little help. The turn was the K, leaving Wasicka drawing dead as he had no black cards in his hand to make a flush. That was unfortunate as the 5 completed the board and Wasicka was gone.
I’m Phil Ivey And You’re Not
Picking up the action after the turn, the board read AJ78 and Phil Ivey fired 70,000 into the pot.
David Wickham decided to stand on the tracks while the train was coming through, making the call. The river was the 3 and Ivey blasted another slug into the pot, betting 120,000. Wickham finally had a light bulb go off in his head as he laid his hand down. Ivey took the pot and was closing in on 1 million in chips.
Later, Ivey and Michael Graydon were tangling in a hand and the board read Q597. Graydon checked to Ivey who moved all in, having Graydon well covered. Graydon decided to call and turned over A9 for second pair. Ivey then turned over the best hand, KK. The 7 completed the board and Ivey scored another knockout. His stack was at 1.1 million.
Moments later, Ivey raised to 16,000 preflop and David Watkinson made the call from the big blind. The flop came down 963 and Watkinson checked. Ivey bet 22,000 and Watkinson called. The turn was the 8 and Ivey fired another 55,000 into the pot. Watkinson came along for some more punishment and got it when the K fell on the river. Ivey blasted 120,000 and Watkinson waved the white flag, mucking his hand and sending the pot Ivey’s way. He was at 1.2 million.
Shulman Avoids Going Down With The Ship
A player raised to 18,000 preflop and Jeff Shulman made the call from the big blind. The flop came down QQ10. Shulman checked and his opponent bet 20,000. Shulman called and the turn was the 3. Shulman check-called a bet of 40,000 and the river was the 10.
Both players checked and Shulman showed 33 for a full boat on the turn, but his opponent showed A10 for a better one and Shulman dropped to 320,000.
Eastgate Takes Control Of The Hand, Wins A Pot
Patrick Hanoteau raised to 18,000 from the hijack position and Peter Eastgate made the call from the cutoff. Both blinds also called and the flop came down 1084 and the action was checked to Eastgate. He bet 33,000 and everyone else in the hand mucked.
Eastgate took in a nice pot and was at 360,000.
Nick Binger The New Ladies’ Man, Quadruples Up
After three players had limped for 6,000, Nick Binger moved all in for his last 58,000 in chips. Every limper decided to call and Binger was not too pleased. The flop came QQ2 and everyone checked. It was the same story on the J turn and 9 river.
Binger then showed off his ladies, turning over QQ for quads on the flop. Everyone else mucked and Binger quadrupled up to around 235,000.
Elky Drops Some Chips
Picking up the action on the turn, the board read A2610. Bertrand Grospellier fired a bet and then one player shoved all in. Grospellier made the call with 1010 for a turned set but the all-in player showed down Q9 for a flush.
The river gave no help to Grospellier and his stack dropped to 1.35 million.
Hellmuth Gets Jacked Up, Eruption Follows, Then Busts With Aces
Abraham Mourshaki raised to 20,000 and the action folded to Phil Hellmuth who raised to 36,000. Mourshaki called and the flop came down JJ3. Hellmuth bet 40,000 after Mourshaki checked and the bet was called. The turn was the 7 and both players checked. The river was the 5 and Mourshaki bet 120,000. Hellmuth called and was showed AJ for trips. Hellmuth mucked and the tirade began.
“I’m gonna vomit on the floor,” he said. “You had to find jack-jack for him. You couldn’t find just one jack so he could sail off?” Hellmuth then walked away from the table as he was down to 100,000.
Just a few hands later, Mourshaki raised to 22,000 preflop and Hellmuth called. Three other players jumped in the pool as well and the flop came down J510. Kevin Jenkins moved all in for 83,000 and Hellmuth repopped with his last 110,000. Kenny Hsuing made the call and the three players tabled their hands.
Hellmuth: AA
Hsuing: J10
Jenkins: 98
Hellmuth started with the best hand but got outflopped badly. He needed some help but the 7 on the turn gave Jenkins the straight and left Hellmuth drawing dead against Jenkins. He did have a shot at a side pot but the river was the 3 and Hellmuth was gone from the main event in 436th place.

Big Hands:
Craig Marquis Hangs Around Thanks to Running Hearts
Peter Eastgate raised before the flop to 750,000. The action was then on Dean Hamrick, who popped it to 2.1 million. Action folded to Craig Marquis and he moved all in after many moments of thinking. Eastgate threw his hand in the muck but Hamrick made a quick call. The hands were turned over.
Marquis: AQ
Hamrick: QQ
Board: J7345
The flop gave Marquis some added hope as two hearts showed up. The turn added more hope as another heart fell on the turn. The river brought one more heart and Marquis cracked Hamrick's ladies to build his stack up to 12 million. Hamrick was down to about 6 million.
Respect
Kelly Kim moved was under the gun and moved all in for about 3 million in chips. He had not played a hand since the field shrank to 10 players. Apparently, everyone at the table noticed this as well as everyone threw their hands away. Kim took the blinds and antes, but he was not done as he moved all in again preflop a few hands later. No one called again and Kim increased his stack to about 4.5 million.
Rheem Wins Battle of the Blinds
Action folded around to Darus Suharto in the small blind. He completed the bet and David Rheem checked his option from the big blind. The players saw a flop of A38 and Suharto checked. Rheem fired 240,000 and Suharto mucked his hand, allowing Rheem to rake in the pot. His stack was around 8 million.

Big Hands and Storylines:
Gert Andersen Eliminated in 14th place ($463,201)
On the third hand after the dinner break on the featured table, Ylon Schwartz open raised for a total of 500,000. The action folded to Gert Andersen in the small blind, who reraised all in for his remaining 3,810,000 in chips. Schwartz quickly called and turned over AK, a strong favorite over Andersen’s AJ. The tension was high as the flop came Q102, giving Andersen a gut-shot straight draw but removing the remaining jacks from his list of outs. The turn fell 8, improving Andersen’s straight draw and giving him four additional outs. The 5 on the river was a miss, and Andersen exited the tournament area in 14th place to collect his $463,201 in prize money. Schwartz improved his chip stack to over 17 million, putting him in second place on the leader board.
Tough Rail!
The remaining two tables have attracted quite a crowd of spectators, including many notable poker pros who have showed up to sweat the action. The current list of railbirds at the secondary featured table includes Andy Bloch, Michael Mizrachi, Mel Judah, J.C. Tran, and Marcel Luske.
Chino Rheem Takes One Away from Darus Suharto
On a flop of AJ4, Chino Rheem checked to Darus Suharto. After some deliberation, Suharto counted out a bet of 475,000 and pushed it towards the middle. Rheem check-raised an additional 600,000, prompting Suharto to go into the tank. Suharto eventually made the call and the 8 fell on the turn. Rheem led out with a bet of 1,500,000, to which Suharto folded his hand. Rheem dragged the pot and stacked his chips, which now total over 11 million.
Kelly Kim Loses One to Joe Bishop
Kelly Kim open raised to 500,000 from his position under the gun, and the action folded to Joe Bishop in the big blind. After taking some time to fiddle with his chips, Bishop sloppily tossed out what appeared to be an arbitrary amount of chips. The dealer counted it down to discover that it was a reraise of an additional 1,060,000. Kim contemplated for a few moments before mucking his hand. As he took the pot, Bishop flashed the A to his tablemates.

$10,000 Main Event - Day 7 - Level 29
Jul 14, '08
Blinds/Antes: 50,000-100,000-10,000
Players Remaining: 23 out of 6,844
Average Chip Stack: 5.95 million
Eliminations: Paul Snead (21st).
Big Hands and Storylines:
Cantu Can't Do Wrong
Peter Eastgate raised to 275,000, and was called only by Brandon Cantu in the small blind. Cantu checked the flop of 1052, but called Eastgate's continuation bet of 400,000. Both players checked the turn, the 10. The river double paired the board with the 5, and once again both players checked. Cantu turned over AQ, and his ace kicker was big enough to take down the healthy little pot.
...Or Can't He?
Kelly Kim raised to 275,000 before the flop. Brandon Cantu then reraised to 950,000, only to have Dean Hamrick move all in for 1,465,000. After some time in the tank, Cantu made the call and turned over...105. The one time chip leader needed a lot of help to improve against Hamrick's AA. He got a little bit of assistance on the flop, which ran 875, but was shot down to two outs when the turn brought the 8. There was no five on the river for Cantu, who started counting down Hamrick's double up as the dealer placed the 10 on the felt a little too late. Cantu was left with the smallest stack in the tournament after the hand with only 2.4 million.
Ivan To Win
Chris Klodnicki raised it to 200,000 from under the gun. Ivan Demidov called the minimum raise from the big blind, checking the flop of Q62. Klodnicki made a continuation bet for 350, which Ivan called, but gave up in the hand after that point, checking behind on both the turn 8 and the river 2. Demidov turned over 63, and happily raked in the small pot.
Chop It Up
Peter Eastgate raised to 300,000, and was called only by Kelly Kim in the blind. Both players checked the flop of 942, but Kim led out at the turn, the 5, for 400,000. Eastgate made the call, and both players checked the river when the 6 fell, completing a possible flush. Neither player had the flush, however, instead showing A9 and A9 and splitting the pot.
Suharto Eliminates Cristian
Jason Riesenberg raised to 300,000, Darus Suharto made the call one from the cut-off, then Judet Toni Cristian reraised to 1 million total from the cut-off. Riesenberg folded, then Suharto announced all-in. He had Cristian covered, but the Romanian made the call and showed JJ. Suharto revealed the KK. The flop came Q109, which meant each player held the other’s outs for any possible straight. The 5 on the turn and 5 on the river completed the board however, and Suharto eliminated Cristian in 22nd place.
Cristian had earlier gained valuable chips. He attempted to raise from early position, but was called for a string bet as he didn’t announce “raise” in time. That allowed Nicholas Sliwinski to limp into the pot as well, but when play came to Albert Kim in the small blind, he decided to throw in a raise himself, to 675,000. Jason Riesenberg folded from the big blind, and then Cristian, given a second opportunity, announced raise and moved all-in for 2.5 million. Kim made the call and showed 99, but he trailed the AA of Cristian. The board finished QJ1043 and Cristian doubled up.
Riesenberg Lays Down Aces
Jason Riesenberg raised to 275,000 preflop and drew two callers, David Rheem on the button and Dennis Phillips in the small blind. The flop came KQ10, Phillips and Riesenberg checked, and Rheem bet 400,000. Phillips then check-raised to 1.4 million and Riesenberg and Rheem both folded. Riesenberg showed AA as he tossed his cards into the muck.
