Big Hands:

Vanessa Rousso Eliminated

Evan Roberts open-shoved for the last of Vanessa Rousso’s stack of 39,600. Rousso went into the tank before finally calling with ace-six. Roberts tabled pocket fives and they held up to eliminate the 2009 NBC National Heads Up runner-up.

Alec Torelli Advances

The short stack of Joao Barbosa moved all-in preflop and Alec Torelli went into the tank. He said, “this is going to be a close one.” He eventually made the call and exposed the A2 and was slightly ahead of the Q9 of Barbosa. The flop was ugly for Barbosa as it came A54, giving the Event No. 2 (40,000 no-limit hold’em) sixth place finisher a pair of aces. The 7 hit the turn and the 8 fell on the river.

Mike Caro Doubles Up

Approaching almost four hours of play, Mike Caro went all-in with the AQ and was instantly called by Alexey Popov with A8. Caro survived the hand and doubled up to a 2-1 chip lead but the heads up match shows little signs of ending soon. Their match is the only one still going from round three.

Everyone that has advanced to round four has made the money. The next round will begin very shortly. If the Caro vs. Popov match has not ended by then, the rest of the field will still begin the next round.

New Chip Leader: Vadim Shlez

Vadim Shlez has jumped out to the lead with a massive chip stack worth 420,000. In a recent hand Joao Barbosa moved all in ahead of him and he made the call. Barbosa flipped over pocket deueces and Shlez held pocket aces. The aces held up to help Shlez pass the 400,000 mark, making him the first player in the tournament to reach such lofty heights.

Barbosa Bulldozes with Short Stack

It's just at the end of level 6. There are 148 players left and the blinds are 150/300 with a 25 ante.

Joao Barbosa bets 9,000 preflop and the player in seat 9 calls. The flop comes J97.

Barbosa bets 1,600, Seat 9 calls.

The turn is the 2. Barbosa thinks for a bit and concentrating on his chips tots up an amount to bet. This amount is 2,500.

Seat 9 says, "You've got 6,100 behind?" He then takes a look at what his chips would look like without that amount, tanks, and folds.

Barbosa is around the 15,000 mark.

Joao Barbosa, who coincidentally, celebrates his 26th birthday today has become the 2008 PokerStars.com European Poker Tour Polish Open champion. He receives €367,141 for first place. He should enjoy his birthday present!

Slow Rollin'...

Things have slowed down here heads up. Here are some of the hands that have just gone down:

Nico Behling bet 45,000 on a 1075 flop, Joao Barbosa reraised to 190,000, Behling folds.

Then, on a K76, Behling bets 20,000, Barbosa calls. The turn is the 3, Behling bets 55,000, Barbosa thinks and folds.

Chips then went back and forth once more but on a grander scale...

Behling bet 68,000 preflop and Barbosa called.

The flop was K87, Behling checks, Barbosa bets 75,000, and Behling raises to 200,000. Barbosa then goes one better and reraises all in. Behling folds after not very long, and smiles.

Behling then took some back a couple of hands later. Blinds in and the flop comes KJ9, Barbosa bets 70,000, Behling calls, and the turn comes the 4. Both players check. The river is the 8, Behling bets 185,000 and Barbosa folds.

It seems to be quiet man Joao Barbosa's day today. It's his birthday though so it's not surprising lady luck is on his side. Atanas Gueorguiev is all in with A-K and Barbosa calls with K-Q. There isn't much action until ... Barbosa rivers a queen.

Arnaud Mattern Eliminated in Fifth Place (€72,724)

After taking some chips from Dario Minieri, and bullying Joao Barbosa for a bit, Arnaud Mattern found himself all-in with pocket tens against Barbosa's pocket eights.

Another eight was out to get Mattern however, as it fell on the turn and knocked him out of the event. He goes home with €72,724. He was ahead with the two hands that led to his demise, but will have to console himself and then move on if he wants to get that double EPT title. Joao Barbosa on the small blind bets 3,000. Dario Minieri on the big blind calls. The flop comes AK10, Barbosa bets 39,000, Minieri calls, and the turn falls the 7. Both player check, and out on the river is the 5. Checks around again and Barbosa shows pocket fours. Minieri mucks, and says after that he was on a flush draw.
