Hand of the Level:

Van Nguyen Doubles Through Chip Lead

Van Nguyen limped under the gun and Steven Begleiter raised to 4,200 on the button. The blinds folded and Nguyen reraised to 11,900.

Begleiter put her all in and Nguyen insta-called with pocket aces. Begleiter showed AK and couldn’t catch up when the board came K73Q9.

After the hand, Nguyen was up to about 90,000 while Begleiter maintained his chip lead with 300,000.

Level Summary:

The action slowed during the last level, but just a bit. Adam Geyer was at one point near the top of the chip counts, but awful luck saw his tournament come to an early end.

Early in the level, Geyer’s pocket aces ran into a flopped set. Then he was all in preflop with pocket queens, only to see his opponent river trip jacks holding A-J.

Prahlad Friedman continued his march up the leaderboard by dominating his table and bringing his stack to over 200,000. Matt Marafioti informed us that he got most of those chips when his Q-J flopped quads against Marafioti’s pocket aces.

Level 2 Update

Van Nguyen Eliminated

Van Nguyen was among the first players of the day to be eliminated when she was knocked out of the tournament Jason Mercier. Mercier now holds 32,000.

Nenad Medic Eliminated

An opponent of Nenad Medic moved all in on a board of J755 and Medic called him down. Medic turned up J7 for two pair but his opponent showed down J5 for the full house. The river brought the 9 and Medic was knocked down to 2,500. He was forced to move this small amount all in a few hands later and he was the first shooting star to be eliminated from the event.

Jennifer Tilly Eliminated

Jennifer Tilly was just knocked out of the tournament when her poacket aces were all in against the pocket fives of an opponent. A third five fell on the river though, and Tilly was knocked out of the Shooting Star event once again on a bad beat.

Jamie Rosen Wins a Nice Pot

Jamie Rosen got it all in with pocket jacks and Shane Schleger called him down with A-K. The board ran out Q-7-6-5-5 and Rosen doubled up. Schleger was knocked down to 4,500 after the hand.

Van Nguyen Eliminated in 13th Place ($29,564)

Michael Katz raises to 195,000 and Van Nguyen moves all in for 700,000. Katz makes the call with pocket queens and Nguyen needs help with pocket sixes.

The board comes A10934 and Nguyen is eliminated in 13th place, earning just under $30,000.

Van Nguyen Eliminated in 36th Place ($14,085)

Van Nguyen has busted out of the tournament in 36th place, after surviving the money bubble with a very shot stack. She will take home $14,085 in prize money.

Controversy on the Bubble

With 37 players remaining and the money just one player away, Van Nguyen was facing a decision for all of her chips.

Five minutes later, much to the delight of the rest of her table, she finally folded and saved her remaining 30,000 in chips for a better spot. With her husband Men "The Master" Nguyen behind her, Nguyen watched as a player one table over got no callers on his all in push.

Needless to say, the long, drawn out affair got under the skin of many of her tablemates.
