By making trip aces on the final hand, Keith Ferrera is the 2009 Wynn Classic Poker Champion. In a post tournament interview, Ferrera credited a few tough players at the table, including runner-up Kyle Wilson, but felt that the overall competition wasn't as tough as the average final table of a $100 rebuy online.
This was Ferrera's third final table of the series, after finishing sixth and seventh in events no. 6 and no. 7, respectively. Ferrera cashed for six figures at the Bellagio last summer, but this is by far his largest score to date. Congratulations to the champion.
After a series of preflop raises, both players get it all in. Keith Ferrera showed AJ but Kyle Wilson held the dominating JJ.
The best hand didn't matter much, however, because the board came A54A3, giving Ferrera the pot and the tournament.
Wilson was eliminated in second place and earned $249,000.
On a board of 994105 with about 150,000 in the pot, Kyle Wilson bets 125,000. Keith Ferrera moves all in and Wilson agonizingly goes into the tank.
Wilson has about 850,000 behind, the same amount he started heads up play with. Wilson eventually mucks 96 and Ferrera silently pushes his cards toward the dealer, taking the pot and putting them back where they started.
Here are the chip counts heading into heads-up play:
Keith Ferrera -- 2,250,000
Kyle Wilson -- 850,000
At this point the two players agreed to chop up the $60,000 on the side and play for just the trophy. With his 2-1 chip lead, Ferrera took an extra $40,000 and Wilson took an extra $20,000.
On a flop of 972 Cory Zeidman is all in holding KQ looking for yet another flush with overcards. Except this time he's up against Keith Ferrera's A8.
The turn and river come 5J and Ferrera's ace high holds to eliminate Zeidman in third place, earning $210,000.
The final three players have agreed to a deal based on the Independent Chip Model (ICM) thanks to a very notable online player on the phone with Jean-Robert Bellande.
Here is what the numbers broke down into.
Kyle Wilson -- $229,000
Keith Ferrera -- $215,000
Cory Zeidman -- $210,000
Play will continue however, as they decided to leave $60,000 to the winner.
The final three players are now discussing a chop based on these numbers.
Keith Ferrera -- 1,005,000
Kyle Wilson -- 1,182,000
Cory Zeidman -- 935,000
Ed Perry moved all in holding KQ and was called by Keith Ferrera's JJ. The board came 73254 and Ferrera's overpair held to take the pot and bring his stack over 1 million again.
Perry is eliminated in 4th place and earns $80,704.
On a flop of A73 Cory Zeidman is all in and gets called by Keith Ferrera.
Zeidman shows 65 for a spade draw with an inside straight draw. Ferrera shows A5 and is looking for it to hold to get to three-handed play.
Instead, the turn and river come 810 giving Zeidman his winning flush and a pot worth 925,000. Ferrera is now down to 620,000 in chips.
On the first hand back from break, Ed Perry moves all in for 165,000 and is called by Keith Ferrera. Perry shows 10-8 and is behind to Ferrera's A-2, but the flop gives Perry two pair and it holds to double him up to about 350,000.
