Congratulations to Joe Tehan, who has secured the second biggest score of his career by winning the 2010 PokerStars North American Poker Tour L.A. main event.
Tehan doubled up early on at the final table and used his chips to effectively run over his opponents. In the end, Tehan’s aggression was enough to overtake Chris DeMaci, who entered the final table way ahead of the pack.
For his efforts this week, Tehan will take home $725,000 and the title of NAPT champion.
Joe Tehan raised to 240,000 on the button and Chris DeMaci called. The flop came down K53 and Tehan continued with a bet of 375,000.
DeMaci moved all in for 2,650,000 and Tehan immediately called, tabling K10 for top pair. DeMaci showed K4 and needed some help for his kicker.
The turn was the 5, pairing the board and giving DeMaci outs for the chop, but the river was the 4, giving the pot to Tehan with kings and fives with a ten kicker.
The players have returned from the break to increased blinds of 60,000-120,000 with a 15,000 ante.
Here are the heads up chip counts.
Joe Tehan — 18,405,000
Chris DeMaci — 2,540,000
It’s been a slow grind here at heads up play, but Joe Tehan has managed to put Chris DeMaci in the danger zone with about 35 big blinds. It’s only a matter of time now before they all get in the middle.
Joe Tehan raised too 200,000 and Chris DeMaci reraised to 550,000. Tehan called and the flop came down Q32.
DeMaci continued with a bet of 450,000 and Tehan called again. The turn was the Q and both players checked. The Q hit the river and DeMaci bet 1,125,000.
Tehan made the call and DeMaci conceeded the pot with J10 for jack high. Tehan showed KJ for king high and took the pot, moving DeMaci down to 3,700,000.
Chris DeMaci raised to 200,000 and Joe Tehan reraised to 575,000. DeMaci called and both players saw a flop of A93.
Tehan bet 625,000 and DeMaci mucked. So far, the players are about where they started heads up play.
There are still seven minutes remaining in the current level before the blinds move to 50,000-100,000 with a 10,000 ante. Shuffle up and deal!
The production crew is hungry, so we are now going to take a one-hour dinner break. See you at about 8:00 p.m.
Joe Tehan — 14,595,000
Chris DeMaci — 6,350,000
Joe Tehan raised to 165,000 and Al Grimes moved all in for his last 590,000. Tehan made the priced in call with J9 and was surprisingly ahead of Grimes and his 87.
The board fell 10739K and Grimes was eliminated, leaving us with just two players.
