From Worst to First; Chiu Makes Late-night Comeback

David Chiu

David Chiu entered the final level of the night on the short stack but managed to chip up here and there as Stephen Chidwick and Ylon Schwartz battled it out in Level 30. Chidwick was up to over 2.2 million at one point after knocking Schwartz down to the short stack with just 200,000. Schwartz doubled back a few times through both of his opponents and managed to end the night second in chips with just about an average stack of 6.5 big bets heading into Day 4. Chidwick was not so fortunate as the clock ran out and suddenly found himself on the short stack as the night came to an end.

As Chidiwick and Schwartz traded chips all level, Chiu had quietly amassed more than 1.2 million in chips before being doubled through by Ylon Schwartz in a game of Stud 8. Chiu started the hand with a wired pair of aces and bet every street until sixth where he check-raised Schwartz all-in with the best hand. Schwartz called with a split pair of queens and was behind, but he paired his ten on the river while Chiu bricked. Schwartz doubled up to over 1.5 million that hand while Chiu was sent back on the short stack once again with just 390,000. Chiu quickly doubled back through Schwartz in the same round and then went on to climb his way up the leader board, ending the night on top with just under 2 million in chips.

The remaining three players will return at 1:00pm local time to begin Day 4 where action will continue until a winner is determined.

Schwartz Back in the Lead

Ylon Schwartz

Robby Rasmussen managed to steal the chip lead from Ylon Schwartz in Level 27 after scooping a big Omaha 8 pot with the nut straight on the river. That hand saw a bet on every street and put Rasmussen in the lead with about 1,250,000 while Schwartz fell down to 650,000 in chips. Elior Sion then won a big Razz hand off of Rasmussen with an 8-7 low that put Sion out in front with just over 1 million for lead. Rasmussen then lost some more chips to Sion in another big Razz hand after Sion tabled a 6-5 low to win the pot and move up to nearly 1.5 million in chips. That hand knocked Rasmussen down to about 500,000.

Despite the absence of any eliminations until late in the last level, there has been plenty of action and chip movement amongst the top. Stephen Chidwick made a run for the lead in Level 28 by breaking the million-chip mark, but was nearly doubled through by Ylon Schwartz in the Limit Hold’em portion of the level. Schwartz flopped a set and turned a full house to win the showdown, knocking Chidwick below 500,000 as he made his way back to the top of the leader board by the end of the level. Schwartz went from chip leader to the short stack and then back in the lead after two levels of play.
