Pat Poels Wins Event #5 ($1,500 Omaha Hi-Lo Split)

After betting the whole way, Lukas is all in on a board of Kc-6s-6h-10s-8d. As he puts his last chips into the pot, Poels can't hide his excitement as he knows he has just won a World Series of Poker bracelet. Poels shows 9d-8c-7c-5h for a ten-high straight, while Lukas has two pair with Js-10c-9h-8s. John Lukas is eliminated in second place, earning $139,870.

Pat Poels wins Event #5 ($1,500 Omaha Hi-Lo Split), earning $270,100 and a coveted World Series of Poker bracelet.

Poels Reclaims the Momentum

Pat Poels has just won a series of pots to take the momentum away from John Lukas. He starts out by making an ace-high straight to beat Lukas's ten-high straight on a board of K-10-6-9-J. That started a serious swing where Poels is winning pot after pot after pot. It now stands at about $840,000 for Poels to $210,000 for Lukas.

John Lukas Continues to Grow His Chip Stack

Poels is raising and reraising relentlessly, and while he's getting Lukas to fold hands, Lukas is winning the larger pots as the chips go back and forth between them. For example, Lukas check-calls all the way down on a board of Kc-Kh-Jd-2h-Qs, and then shows A-10-2-x for the ace-high straight to scoop the pot.

Lukas continues his steady climb to about $475,000 to Poels' $575,000.

Heads-Up Update

Lukas has made up some ground, and here are the approximate chip counts:

Pat Poels - $600,000
John Lukas - $450,000

Heads-Up Chip Counts

Here are the updated chip counts for the final heads-up battle in Event #5 ($1,500 Omaha Hi-Lo Split):

John Lukas - $675,000
Pat Poels - $380,000

Jeff Duvall Eliminated in 3rd Place ($77,170)

Jeff Duvall is all in on a board of Jh-10c-5c-2d-10d, but his pair of fives with a queen kicker can't hold up against
Lukas's pair of fives with a king kicker. Jeff Duvall is eliminated in third place, earning $77,170.

John Lukas Triples Up

Lukas limps from the button, Duvall limps from the small blind, and Poels checks his option from the big blind. The flop comes Ks-5d-4d, Duvall checks, Poels bets $15,000, Lukas calls, and Duvall calls. The turn card is the 9d, Duvall checks, Poels checks, Lukas bets $30,000, and both players call. The river card is the Js, it's checked to Lukas, he goes all in for $20,000, and both players calls. Lukas shows Qs-Jd-6d-3d for a jack-high flush. Since there are no qualifying low hands on this board, Lukas scoops the entire pot to triple up. (Duvall showed pocket kings for a set, and Poels said he had three pair.)

Here are the approximate chip counts after that hand:

1. Pat Poels - $660,000 (seat 10)
2. John Lukas - $250,000 (seat 3)
3. Jeff Duvall - $145,000 (seat 4)

2. Jeff Duvall - $285,000 (seat 4)
3. John Lukas - $105,000 (seat 3)
