The eyes of the world will be on Vancouver, British Columbia, today for the opening ceremony of the XXI Winter Olympic Games. The opening ceremonies will be hosted at BC Place in downtown Vancouver.
Poker players in the area will be happy to find out that just across the street, the Edgewater Casino has just opened a new 15-table poker room in time for the crowds of thousands that will be in town to enjoy the games.
New Poker Room in Downtown Vancouver
Edgewater Casino, which is located on the shores of False Creek, announced the opening of its brand-new poker room on Feb. 9.
“We’re committed to giving our guests what they want, and that’s exactly what we have unveiled for our poker players,” said Lorea Ytterberg, poker manager of Edgewater Casino. “Our new space is a natural fit for a poker room that gives our players a private retreat from the casino floor, a convenient bar and lounge, and a Las Vegas-style gaming experience.”
The new room is located adjacent to the main casino building, and it caters to every level of player while offering large promotional prizes and jackpots. The new poker room promises short wait times, abundant promotional rewards, complimentary poker lessons, an advance call-in wait list for tables, free valet service, and broadcasts of all Pay-Per-View, UFC, Vancouver Canucks, and other major sporting events.
Poker professional Brad Booth lives in Vancouver a short distance away from the Edgewater Casino, and when he’s not playing for high stakes online, he occasionally plays in the poker room.
“They have a $5-$5 PLO game that goes regularly and there is no cap on the buy-in, so it’s a good little game. It’s a good game while I’m home here in town,” said Booth. “The staff is great, Lorea does a great job. It’s a great place to play.”
The poker room spreads $1-$2, $2-$5, and $5-$10 no-limit hold’em. The limit hold’em offerings include $2-$4, $4-$8, $4-$8 kill, $6-$12, and $20-$40 kill. The Edgewater Casino features a regular pot-limit Omaha game, with $5-$5 limits. During the Olympic games, the poker room will also host daily poker tournaments at 10 a.m., 2 p.m., 7 p.m., and 2 a.m.
The Edgewater Casino’s fully licensed poker room has been designed to enhance the gaming experience and it is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Free poker lessons and table reservations can be made by calling the direct poker line: 604-408-4060. The casino property will also host a celebration village for the Winter Olympics, Chinese New Year, and Valentine’s Day at the nearby Plaza of Nations Feb. 12-28.

The six-table poker room also spreads no-limit hold’em, limit hold’em, pot-limit Omaha, Omaha eight-or-better, and seven-card stud. The River Rock Casino is also conveniently located close to the Vancouver International Airport. “Where most of the best B.C. players play,” said Vancouver-based poker professional Robert Cheung about the River Rock Casino. He continued, “The room employs some of the best dealers and pit bosses who understand the game and they really take good care of the customer.”
Boulevard Casino — Coquitlam
