April 14 marks both the grand reopening and the 10-year anniversary of the Minnesota casino. The 18,000-square-foot casino began its renovation in early January, complete with a new design that now houses the poker room in the back of the casino.

“We changed the layout of the card casino, bringing the excitement of table games to the front and adding glass walls that will make the new room very visible,” said Randy Sampson, Canterbuy’s CEO. “Having operated in the same room without any major changes for 10 years, an eternity in casino terms, we are very excited about the renovation.”

After a private ribbon-cutting at 5 p.m. on April 14, the doors will open to the public at 7 p.m. The first 200 players will be given a $5 commemorative chip.

Poker players will have plenty of incentive to use the room, and not just Wednesday night. Canterbury is hosting a $100,000 freeroll — the largest in state history — on July 25. Players can only qualify for this exclusive event by playing a certain number of hours in the poker room with their MVP card.

From April 22-June 30, players who log in 100 hours will get an entry into a semi-final tournament on July 21-24. If you log 175 hours in that timeframe, you are automatically awarded a finals entry on July 25.

Next month, the casino will also host the popular Minnesota State Poker Championships. The $1,100 event runs May 19-23.

The room hosts 34 tables, according to its website, complete with tableside food and beverage service, as well as massage services.

“We have added some very nice amenities to make this a fun and comfortable gaming experience for our guests,” said Sampson.

Cocktails are served until 2 a.m. nightly.
