Vanessa Selbst Wins Big at Mohegan Sun and Sorel Mizzi Moves into Second

Vanessa Selbst scored the second major tournament win of her career this week when she won the PokerStars North American Poker Tour Mohegan Sun $5,000 no-limit main event. She topped a field of 716 players and took home the top prize worth $750,000 along with 1,920 points. It was her first POY cash in 2010, and it puts her in a five-way tie for 16th place in the standings. The cash also put her career earnings at $1,672,855. Selbst defeated Mike Beasley in the heads-up final at Mohegan Sun and he earned 1,600 points as the runner-up. Thanks to a tournament win in January’s Borgata Winter Open that gave him 960 points Beasley now holds 2,560 points overall and he cracks the top 10 this week. He is currently in seventh place.

Sorel Mizzi surpassed Harrison Gimbel for second place in the standings when he won his fourth poker tournament of the year at the Borgata Spring Poker Open on Thursday. Mizzi defeated 61 opponents in the $7,500 East Coast Poker Championship and he won $170,313 in prize money. He was also awarded 288 points for his win, which gives him 3,278 overall. He now trails the current leader Thomas Marchese by 228 points.
