Daniel Negreanu: "H.O.R.S.E. dates back to the days of Chip Reese and Doyle Brunson."

Barry Greenstein:
"Thirty years ago, we played dealer's choice."

Annie Duke:
"H.O.R.S.E. originated at The Mirage when high-stakes players were frustrated with so many shorthanded games going on in the high-limit area. Some players specialized in draw variations such as stud and stud eight-or-better, while other players preferred the flop variations like hold'em and Omaha. Razz was thrown into the mix to throw players off."

Todd Brunson: "I saw H.O.R.S.E. about 15 years ago. It was started by a bunch of amateurs looking to keep the pros out of the game. At the time, practically all pros – myself included – were specialists at one game or another. But very few of us played more than one or two games, and certainly not five. That was one heck of a game. A real donkey fest."
