Cavendish Closed
Belfast's Cavendish Casino was raided by police at the end of January. Chips, cards, tables, and, most importantly, the sizeable prize pool of a monthly £200 tournament that was in progress at the time were seized by the police.
The 80-plus players present were advised they were committing an arrestable offence, and although they were not detained, they had to provide personal details to the police.
Shamrock Card Club
A new cardroom in Waterford has opened. "The Shamrock Card Club opened its doors just prior to Christmas and, from a standing start, we hope to build up our business significantly in the coming year," explained organizer John Meehan.
"We have 12 poker tables in our cardroom, as well as a series of gaming tables. We will try to cater to all levels of players, with games ranging from €1-€2 pot and no-limit hold'em and Omaha with €50 and €100 buy-ins to our more substantial €500 dealer's-choice game on Fridays. There are also tournaments on Sundays, Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays."
