Card Player is privileged to be one of the poker media outlets chosen for the inaugural media voting panel for the Poker Hall of Fame. This means that, along with the 16 living Hall of Fame members, Card Player gets to vote for the players most deserving of being inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame this year.
This is the first year that the World Series has opened up the voting to the fans, who cast thousands of votes, and the media. It has created a lot of discussion about the most deserving players, which is great for drawing more attention to the Poker Hall of Fame.
So, who is up for induction this year? Three former world champs made the list, including Tom McEvoy, Dan Harrington, and Scotty Nguyen. Also on the list are Erik Seidel, main-event runner-up and holder of eight bracelets (fifth most in history), popular poker ambassador Mike Sexton, Barry Greenstein, Daniel Negreanu, Men Nguyen, and Tom Dwan.
So, what does it take to be inducted?
Criteria for the Hall of Fame
Players:
• Must have played poker against acknowledged top competition
• Played for high stakes
• Played consistently well, gaining the respect of peers
• Stood the test of time
Non-players:
• Contributed to the overall growth and success of the game of poker, with indelible positive and lasting results.
Being inducted into the Hall of Fame is, perhaps, poker’s highest honor. So, before Card Player makes its selections from this list of deserving candidates, we want to hear from you.
Whom would you choose, and why? Let us know at [email protected].
The induction ceremony will take place at the main-event final table in November. If you get the opportunity to be in Las Vegas for the big “November Nine” showdown, which starts on Nov. 7, be sure to stop by the Rio. There will certainly be some exciting poker action taking place, and a slew of poker’s greats will be there, honoring the Hall of Fame.
Lastly, this issue features a look at the November Nine, which includes Card Player President and Publisher Jeff Shulman. Check it out beginning on Page 50.
