The Card Player Poker Tour is finally heading to the state of Texas for some Texas hold’em.

The Post Oak Poker Club in the city of Houston, the first licensed poker club in the state, is excited to announce the first major poker tournament tour stop ever held in Texas. The second annual Lone Star State Poker Championship, presented this year for the very first time by the Card Player Poker Tour, will be held July 30 through Aug. 5, 2018.

Yes, you heard that right: Legal Texas hold’em in Texas! The series also marks one of the first non-charity major poker tournaments in the state’s history.

“We are really going to have a lot of fun and Card Player is the perfect partner to help us get the word out,” said Post Oak Poker Club founder Daniel Kebort.

The Lone Star State Poker Championship Main Event, which features a $500 buy-in (plus the $80 seat rental), will run Aug. 3-5. The festivities actually kick off on July 28 when the ladies of LIPS will hold the first annual Lone Star Ladies State Poker Championship (not presented by the Card Player Poker Tour).

The Post Oak Poker Club is hosting a “Welcome Home” party for poker players July 27-28.

“We are working to create a festival atmosphere around the event complete with a freeroll tournament, giveaways and a complimentary buffet highlighting the best of Texas in order to welcome Texas Hold’em back home in style,” Kebort said.

Here’s a look at the complete schedule:

Customized gold rings will be awarded to the winners of the following events: Lone Star State PLO Championship, Lone Star State Seniors Poker Championship and the Lone Star State Poker Championship main event. The championship rings are crowned with the Texas state gem, blue topaz, cut in a Lone Star shape and featuring black onyx and rubies.

Discount hotel rooms are available from the popular Post Oak Hilton Galleria, located less than a quarter mile from the poker club. You wouldn’t even need to drive from your hotel room to play some cards.

About the Post Oak Poker Club

The Post Oak Poker Club opened in August of 2017 as the first private poker club in Houston. Since then, POPC has continued to pioneer the growing poker industry in Texas. Along with the Card Player Poker Tour, the Post Oak Poker Club is now poised to set the standard for what players can expect from a major tour stop in Texas. The POPC, which is for those 21 years and older, is located in the heart of Uptown Houston, the most exclusive neighborhood in Texas for shopping, dining and now poker games.

“Our location at San Felipe and Post Oak is pretty much the Rodeo Drive of Houston,” Kebort said. “It’s a high-visibility, high-income area.” Thanks to the luxuriousness of the club and the upscale nature of the surrounding community, there is a “smart casual” dress code that is strictly enforced. The rules are: no gym clothes, no flip-flops, no torn clothing and no backwards hats.

Aside from the dress code and the business model, poker players should see basically everything they are familiar with regarding a poker room at the POPC. The club is quickly becoming a major draw. In order to fully comply with Texas’ gambling laws and other regulations, POPC doesn’t take a rake but rather charges fees for seat rentals and other amenities poker players love.

“Come out and see the best of Houston as we show the world what poker in Texas is all about,” Kebort said. “As the first major tour stop in Texas we are looking forward to sharing our world-class venue and unique membership model poker club with the national poker community.”

The club is open Monday through Friday , 1 p.m. to 4 a.m., and Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 a.m.

In addition to tournaments, the POPC has plenty of cash games available thanks to its 15 tables. The poker room, which can hold up to 230 guests, offers $2-$4 limit hold’em, $1-$3 no-limit hold’em, $2-$5 no-limit hold’em, $1-$3 pot-limit Omaha and $5-$5 pot-limit Omaha. If you don’t see your favorite game while at the POPC, just ask. The club will run any variation at any limit with sufficient interest. You can also reserve a private game for you and your friends or family.

Are you new to poker and worried about competing against more-skilled opponents? The club offers “Poker for Beginners” lessons available every Sunday at 12:30 p.m. local time.

Of course, it isn’t all poker at the POPC. Don’t forget to bring your appetite and a bottle of your favorite beer, wine or spirit for the club’s B.Y.O.B bar. Whether it’s just a snack to hold you over or a five-star tenderloin filet off the menu to celebrate that big poker win, the poker room’s staff is there to provide you with unmatched service from table to table.
