World Series of Poker Circuit -- Jim Anderson Wins Midwest $10,000 Regional ChampionshipAnderson Takes Home a Gold Ring and $525,449 |
|
The final table of the World Series of Poker Circuit $10,000 Midwest Regional Championship began today shortly after 2 p.m. local time, and just over 10 hours later Jim Anderson was crowned the first ever regional champion. He took home a gold ring, a seat in the National Championship (as did all nine finalists today), and a WSOP Circuit record top prize worth $525,440.
The heads-up final featured two of the lesser known players at the final table after Brandon Adams (seventh place), Shannon Shorr (sixth place), David Sands (fifth place), Anonymous (fourth place), and Bernard Lee (third place) fell in succession. The first two to fall tonight were Mark Owens (ninth place), and Tony Hartmann (eighth place).
Although Anderson clinched his first major tournament title on the final hand of play tonight, he truly won the final table after taking down the largest hand of the tournament during three-handed play. In that huge hand, Anderson raised to 90,000 on the button and Gabe Patgorski reraised to 300,000 from the small blind. Anderson reraised to 650,000 and after getting a count, Patgorski moved all in.
Anderson called off his 2.4 million and showed J J. Patgorski was caught with his A 6 and failed to outdraw his opponent when the board fell J 9 3 Q Q.
Anderson held about 5 million of the nearly 7 million chips in play at that point and he ultimately rode that advantage over Patgorski to a heads-up victory. Patgorski took home the runner-up prize worth $324,770, after a strong performance where he played especially well during the last two days of the event.
The next WSOP Circuit $1,500 main event will take place from Nov. 7-9 in Biloxi, Mississippi. The next $10,000 WSOP Circuit Regional Championship will take place at the Harrah’s in Atlantic City from December 19-22 to decide the champion in the East.

Mark Owens Eliminated in Ninth Place ($48,615)
David Sands raised preflop and was called by both blinds in Shannon Shorr and Mark Owens. The flop came down 6 5 4. Shorr checked and Owens moved all in. Sands folded and Shorr went into the tank. Eventually, he made the call and showed 8 8 for the over pair to the board.
Owens showed 8 5 and needed some help to stay alive. At this point, Sands announced that he folded the K, which of course was completely irrelevant to the hand. The turn was the 6 and the river was the K, ending Owens tournament run.
Tony Hartmann Eliminated in Eighth Place ($60,952)
Tony Hartmann open shoved for his last 95,000 and was called by Gabe Patgorski.
Patgorski didn’t like his hand and showed A 3, but it was well ahead of Hartmann’s 4 2. The board fell 10 10 9 5 7 and Hartmann was eliminated.
Brandon Adams Eliminated in Seventh Place ($77,556)
Brandon Adams moved all in from the button for his last 139,000 and was called by David Sands in the big blind.

Shannon Shorr Eliminated in Sixth Place ($100,151)
Shannon Shorr raised to 72,000 from the button and Gabe Patgorski reraised to 207,000 from the big blind. Shorr thought it over for a few second before announcing that he was all in.
Patgorski instantly called and Shorr knew he was in trouble with his J J. Patgorski showed A A and they held on a board of 9 8 3 K K. Shorr is eliminated and Patgorksi is now an overwhelming chip leader with over 3.6 million in chips.
David Sands Eliminated in Fifth Place ($131,299)
David Sands moved all in for his last 409,000 and Curt Kohlberg immediately called from the big blind.
Sands showed Q 10, but he was in major trouble against Kohlberg’s A A. The board ran out K 10 5 7 8 and Sands was eliminated. Kohlberg, who had him barely covered, now has nearly 850,000 in chips.
Anonymous Eliminated in Fourth Place ($174,807)

Bernard Lee Eliminated in Third Place ($236,368)
Bernard Lee moved all in for 710,000 and Gabe Patgorski made the call.
Lee showed 10 10 and was racing against Patgorski A K. The board rolled out 9 5 3 K J and Lee was eliminated.
