The first Heartland Poker Tour stop of 2011 is a return to the Red Rock Casino Resort in Las Vegas for this weekend’s $1,100 main event. Numerous satellite events have been running all week, offering entry into Saturday’s main event.
Despite scheduling that has the HPT main event taking place at the end of the wildly popular PokerStars Caribbean Adventure and the beginning of the prestigious Aussie Millions, the HPT Red Rock main event still drew in 433 players in 2010, creating a prize pool of $422,669. Top pro David Singer was among the final table participants and was eliminated in fourth place for $29,377. The winner of the event was Kim Ung, who earned $125,901 and the HPT championship jacket.
This year’s main event kicks off Saturday, Jan. 15, with Flight A beginning at 9 a.m. and Flight B starting at 6 p.m. The following day, action will pick up at noon and play to the televised final table, which will start around 6 p.m. It is free for the public to sit in as the studio audience during the final table.
Players will begin with 25,000 in chips and blinds start at 100-200. Each level will last 40 minutes, and both Day 1 flights will play for 12 rounds, down to 40 players, or until the Tournament Director decides to stop play. A 10-minute break will take place after every three levels.
