The World Poker Tour is set to make its first appearance of 2011 with its $10,000 main event at the Southern Poker Championship inside the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi. Beginning at noon CST this Sunday, January 23, the 5-day championship event will finish up with a televised final table playing out on January 27. Aside from a major tournament title and some serious cash, the main event champion will also receive $25,000 entry into the 2011 WPT World Championship at the Bellagio on May 14.
In 2010, the WPT Southern Poker Championship main event attracted 208 players, creating a prize pool of $1,930,000. The Alabama Cowboy Hoyt Corkins was red hot throughout the tournament and entered his sixth career WPT final table as chip leader, ahead of opponents Tyler Smith, Jonathan Kantor, Jerry Vanstrydonck, James Reed and Jared Jaffee. Corkins proceeded to take down his second career WPT title and claim the $739,486 top prize.

Preliminary events at the Southern Poker Championship have been running since Jan. 7, and their results can be found here. A $1,000 WPT Next Stop satellite tournament will be played Monday, Jan. 24, offering main event entry into the WPT L.A. Poker Classic main event set for Feb. 26 at the Commerce Casino in Southern California.
