Although still dominated by French players, a quick look around the Deauville International Centre suggested that once again the second starting day is the preferred choice of many well-known stars of the felt.

A colourful mix of locals, familiar poker faces from all over the world, and a whole heap of Team PokerStars pros made for a day 1B field of 472. This means the grand total of players who entered the €5,300 buy-in main event this season is 891, and this in turn has created a total prize pool of €4,276,800. The last player standing will receive the massive first place prize of €880,000. This pips last season’s 768 players, €3,686,400 prize pool, and €847,000 first place, which went home with Jake Cody.

The biggest story of day 1B belonged to Team PokerStars pro member and online phenom Viktor Blom, largely known as Isildur1. With all eyes on the baby-faced, poker player slayer, Blom proved he could also work his magic on the live baize. Sending those around him to the other side of the rail, Blom cemented his place in the top 10 by close of play.

At the top of the leader board at the end of the day is French PokerStars qualifier Philippe Massias with 175,600 in chips. He is followed closely by French singer/actor Patrick Bruel with 153,100. However, all the survivors of day 1B will be under the lead of Frenchman Guillaume de la Gorce who closed the first starting day with 196,800.

Here is the official top 10 from day 1B:

Philippe Massias (France) 175,600
Patrick Bruel (France) 153,100
Chamoun Lioui (France) 147,600
Mikael Oestreicher (France) 146,400
Viktor Blom (Sweden) 144,700
Petr Targa (Czech Republic) 142,800
Mathew Ernest Frankland (UK) 141,800
Sacha Ordeheide (France) 135,900
Benjamin Carpenter (UK) 129,800
Jonas Ferrut 125,700

Blom had a last longer bet with fellow Team Pro player Daniel Negreanu and he can take that as a bonus as Negreanu hit the rail late session. Others whose Deauville dreams came to an end were Michael Tureniec, Jeff Madsen, and Team PokerStars Pro members Dario Minieri, Arnaud Mattern, Jude Ainsworth, Liv Boeree, and Jonathan Duhamel who almost made it to the end but was felled by Vikash Dhorasso, the former French international footballer.

It is unlikely the money bubble will be burst on day 2, however stranger things have happened. Check back tomorrow to find out what happens next or you can catch up-to-the-minute updates via the PokerStars blog feed. In the meantime here is what the remaining players are fighting for:
