With 93 of an original 293-strong field remaining at the Unibet Open Malta main event, a final table of nine had to be found. The ultimate day of play continues shortly and you can follow all the action live at the blog or check out the online live stream from 4 p.m..

Michiel Brummelhuis made it close but not quite close enough as he got knocked out in 11th place for €5,300.

He was followed by bubble boy Jiri Ruprecht who received €6,200 for narrowly missing out on making it to the final. Mikkel Christensen raised to 35,000 and Ruprecht shoved all in from the big blind for 157,000. Christensen made the call and flipped over AHeart Suit QHeart Suit while Ruprecht tabled AClub Suit 5Spade Suit. At first the board went Ruprecht’s way as it fell ADiamond Suit 6Diamond Suit 5Club Suit to give him two pair, but the QDiamond Suit dropped on the turn to put Christensen ahead. The river was a useless 7Spade Suit and Christensen moved on to the final table line-up.

The player leading the final table of the €1,500 + €150 buy-in main event is Adria Maria Balaguer. The Spanish player will sit down shortly with 933,000 in chips. Also in the running for a nice chunk of the €417,525 prize pool is Rene Freymann who also final tabled the recent Unibet Open London, finishing in sixth place.
