World Poker Tour -- Seminole Hard Rock Showdown Day 1

Day 1 at the World Poker Tour Seminole Hard Rock Showdown no-limit hold’em main event attracted a field of 406 players and by the end of the night just 290 remained. The overnight chip leader is Randy Dorfman with 160,000. Registration will remain open until the start of play tomorrow so the field size could grow even more before the official prize pool is announced.

James Carroll is also near the top with 130,925. Notables joining them in the top 10 are Todd Terry (124,975) and Joe Serock (113,150). Other notable survivors above the chip average of 42,000 include Thayer Rasmussen, Matthew Waxman, Steven Levy, Lauren Kling, Chris Klodnicki, Noah Schwartz, Steve Brecher, Rhynie Campbell, Matt Brady, Ali Eslami, Blair Hinkle, Tommy Vedes, Michael Benvenuti, Joe Tehan, Jordan Morgan, James Mackey, Blair andd Tyler Kenney, Harrison Gimbel, David Baker, William Reynolds, Vivek Rajkumar, and Mike Sexton.

Hand of the Day:

The blinds were 150-300 with a 25 ante when Bobby Suer raised to 550 preflop. Allen Kessler made the call and Aaron Schaff made the call as well, although he originally tried to raise by putting a 1,000-chip and a 25-chip into the pot, but a floor person ruled that he just called.

Ted Lawson then reraised to 2,550 and Suer mucked pocket jacks. Kessler mucked as well and then Schaff reraised to 10,000. Lawson reraised to 25,000 and Schaff then reraised all in. Lawson made the call with pocket aces and he was up against the pocket queens of Schaff.

The board was safe for Lawson until a third queen hit on the river. Schaff had a slight edge in chips over Lawson, who was eliminated on the hand. Schaff grew his chip stack to 100,000 after the hand.
