Sam Razavi Wins UK & Ireland Poker Tour CorkRazavi Keeps Going Until Trophy Is In His Hands |
|
Sam Razavi led the remaining 11 players on the final day of the UKIPT Cork and only slipped behind once, when heads up, in his chase for the trophy and the €71,000 top prize. The pro bested 601 others to put the UK in front of 28 countries in total.
An unfortunate hand occurred just before heads-up play. With a 5 million pot on the line, and German student Martin Mulsow slightly covering Irishman David O’Connor, Mulsow tabled pocket aces while O’Connor revealed A K. The board fell a safe J 9 6 for the German and with the K on the turn, he had to dodge two outs. One of them came on the river, the K crippling the German and putting O’Connor forward for the heads-up spot versus Razavi.
O’Connor finished Mulsow off soon after when the German moved all in with a dominated ace. O’Connor made it to the heads up out in front versus his British, leprechaun-hat wearing nemesis. Razavi soon changed that around however and a classic battle then catapulted him way out in the lead with J 9 versus O’Connor’s 10 8 on a 9 5 2 J board. The river was no use to O’Connor as it fell the K. The ultimate hand was not far off and came with Razavi holding A 7 versus O’Connor’s K 6.
O’Connor left with €41,200 for a fantastic runner-up finish in his first live event. Razavi walked away with the trophy, the title, and €71,000. He said, "It was a really tough table. I was glad a couple of people got badly coolered as they were causing me real problems!”
