Fintan Gavin Wins UK & Ireland Poker Tour EdinburghIrishman Versus Englishman For UK & Ireland Poker Tour Edinburgh Title |
|
Fintan Gavin has won the PokerStars UK & Ireland Poker Tour (UKIPT) Edinburgh by beating 518 players over three days at the Corn Exchange.
Gavin’s final opponent was Englishman Andrew Hawksby but the Irishman, who took second place at EPT Barcelona in 2008, wasn’t about to go home early this time, he stormed onwards towards the title and took down the £61,500 first-place prize.
Hawksby had a 3-1 chip lead on Gavin going into the heads-up match but Gavin won a big flip on the second hand to make the stacks almost even. The Irishman continued his comeback and after an hour of heads-up play he landed his final blow.
Hawksby raised 160,000 from the big blind and Gavin called. The two saw a flop of 9 7 4 and when Gavin check-raised all in, Hawksby made the call. Gavin held J 9 and Hawksby revealed 9 6. The turn and river didn’t change anything and with the two holding the same pair, Gavin’s kicker was enough to end the event.
Here are the final results and payouts:
