Late last year PokerStars announced a new live tournament offering for 2025: the PokerStars Open. The PSO stops would bring several popular regional tours under one banner, including the UK and Ireland Poker Tour (UKIPT), Eureka Poker Tour, Estrellas Poker Tour (ESPT), and France Poker Series (FPS).
The first PSO champion was crowned at the inaugural stop in Campione, Italy. The PSO Campione €1,100 no-limit hold’em main event drew a massive field of 2,423 entries to Casino Di Campione, more than doubling the €1 million guarantee to build a final prize pool worth over $2.5 million when rendered in US dollars.
After four starting flights and three more days of combined-field action, Romania’s Adrian State emerged victorious with the title and the top prize of $395,670. This was a new career-best result for State, topping the $300,130 he earned for a win in the €3,000 mystery bounty event at last year’s European Poker Tour Monte Carlo stop. He now has nearly $1.9 million in career cashes to his name.
“It’s a big privilege to win," said State after his win. “This tournament was huge, and I have had a difficult period, running under EV. I was preparing a lot for this tournament, so when this win came to me, I was very happy.”
This victory also came with 1,080 Card Player Player of the Year points for State, enough to catapult him inside the top 100 in the overall standings presented by Global Poker.
The top 315 finishers made the money in this event, with notables like bracelet winner Fabio Peluso (81st), Terrence Reid (36th), and bracelet winner Darius Neagoe (17th) running deep.
The final five all earned six-figure paydays in this event, with the final battle for the title coming down to State and Italy’s Giorgio Soceanu. State was able to overcome the home-country hero in the end, sending Soceanu to the rail with $245,468 for his runner-up showing.
