Facebook is in talks with several online gambling operators with a view to “open[ing] its platform to real-money gambling in the UK," according to E Gaming Review.

The social media company is reportedly in talks with Israeli online poker and casino operator 888.com which declined to comment.

The story claims Facebook has pin pointed eight potential partners with 888 and Gamesys, with which it already has an established relationship, “first in the queue”. PokerStars is also noted as a potential partner.

Facebook already operates a “virtual” gambling environment where users can gamble play money on a credit system from which Facebook takes a 30 percent cut.

How it would adapt the system to real money gaming is not yet known.

Facebook is believed to be considering an Initial Public Offering (IPO) of shares in spring of 2012 in order to raise up to $10 billion and may also be positioning itself ahead of the expected IPO of Zynga which has 30 million Facebook users playing its games including online poker.

The company recently allowed online gambling ads in selected countries and updated its gambling app policy to all companies to launch non-money apps.
