Schleswig-Holstein, the German state which introduced sympathetic online gaming legislation last year, could see it reversed according to analyst Daniel Stewart & Co.
The company believes the Social Democratic Party (SPD) will today introduce a bill to repeal the law which was widely supported within the gambling industry.
UPDATE Feb. 24: According to Daniel Stewart & Co the bill did not pass: “The bill was not successful and as a result we believe S-H will proceed with accepting and processing license application with the view to issue the first online license in the near future. This is good news for German facing operators in our view.”
The company said, “Though difficult to call, given the slim margin in voting to approve the Gambling Act, if the SPD were to find success this would likely see the breakaway state join the more restrictive plans of the other 15 German states, which seeks to impose a 5% wager tax on sports betting, ban online casino and poker and issue only 20 online licenses.”
Schleswig-Holstein was the only state out of 16 in Germany to go its own way and introduce less restrictive legislation.
