Nancy Todd TynerThere are now two competing ballot proposals that aim to bring casinos to Arkansas, one of which is authored by poker player Nancy Todd Tyner, political consultant and winner of the WPT Ladies Championship in 2008.

Tyner wants casinos in Crittenden, Franklin, Pulaski and Miller counties. The other proposal, led by Michael Wasserson, would bring casinos to Boone, Crittenden, Jefferson, Pulaski, Sebastian, Garland and Miller counties.

Representatives for each county have had mixed opinions concerning gambling expansion, but have been mostly supportive of any idea that can boost tourism and draw tourism dollars from the border states, specifically Missouri, Oklahoma, Mississippi and Louisiana, who all have casinos of their own.

Each proposal must now get the 78,133 required signatures before the constitutional amendments can be added to November’s ballot. If both proposals get enough signatures, then the amendment that gets the most votes will become law, clearing the way for casino licensing.
