When the last match of the round of 16 at the Poker Superstars Invitational 3 tournament began, Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, and Carlos Mortensen all knew it was their last chance to move on.

Seven of the eight players who would compete in the next round had already locked up their seats. Going into the single-table match, they knew that two out of the three players would be done after the last card was dealt. The winner would join Freddy Deeb, Johnny Chan, Todd Brunson, Antonio Esfandiari, Mike Matusow, Card Player COO Jeff Shulman, and Gus Hansen in the quarterfinal round.

Last night, PSIT 3 fans watched Carlos Mortensen lock up that final seat. Mortensen squeaked into the second round of 16 by finishing third in his last qualifying match, which gave him 21 points, tying with Ivey, Hansen, and Chan near the bottom of the list. With his victory, Mortensen is still in it.

Next week, he faces Deeb, Esfandiari, and Chan. The winner of the match advances. A week later, FSN will show the match between the remaining three players. The winner of that match also advances to the semifinals.

PSIT 3 is shown on FSN every Sunday at 8 p.m. local times. CardPlayer.com's Internet coverage of the event can be found here.
