Olympic legend Michael PheplsHigh summer is usually a quite time for real news but it’s been a busy week for poker players and fans on twitter with lots of topical issues and big breaking news to get those fingers tweeting.

The big story, of course, was PokerStars acquiring Full Tilt Poker and settling with the U.S. Department of Justice.

Never one to sit on the fence, Daniel Negreanu aka RealKidPoker tweeted, “PokerStars is the nuts ‘@PokerStars: We’ve just announced the DOJ settlement. Please read here: ‪http://psta.rs/NGA1tC for more information.”

Phil Galfond echoed Negreanu’s sentiment, tweeting, “Props to @PokerStars for handling the last 16 months w/ extreme professionalism. Bailing us all out now is an obscenely large cherry on top.”

The $731 million settlement was a big one and Bill Rini believed it was a significant portion of PokerStars value when he agreed with the analysis of @pier0: “Imho if PokerStars had been a public company, today’s announcement would have cost them 30-50% of their market value << So true!’”

Elsewhere the London Olympics occupied many poker players. Andrew Feldman was settling in for some entertainment, tweeting, “Some women’s hockey followed by some men’s football – what better way to spend a Sunday night?? Come on Team GB!”

Neil Channing aka ‏@SenseiChanning was less impressed with the bookies, William Hill specifically, when he tweeted, “Just asked ‪@willhilltrading for 10/11 Serbia v Germany in volleyball in 2 shops where I am a stranger. One laid £110 other £55 rest 8/11.

“what’s so bad about volleyball? I’m not wanting the farm on but if you can’t lay £550 at 10/11 maybe give up”

“If you don’t want to lay a bet don’t offer the market, save everyone the bother.”

“You wanna increase turnover on Olympic sports? Let’s see. There may be a way for that to happen…‪#layabet|

The President of the United States of America, Barack Obama, got in on the action when he sent a tweet to the greatest Olympian ever (and poker player), Michael Phelps "Congrats to Michael Phelps for breaking the all-time Olympic medal record. You’ve made your country proud.”

Twitter also say some first time action for virgin tweeter and two-time WSOP bracelet winner Praz Bansi who wrote, “Finally on twitter…chrs to loz for settin this account up ages ago,u knew 1day id ask you for the log in deets even tho I said I wouldn’t!”

“this twitter world is mental.. so much philosophy, so much wisdom, and so many freaks!!!…”

Finally Sam Trickett was about to do what he does best after winning $10 million in the One Drop tournament at the World Series of Poker.
“About to go to Macau for 3 weeks to play some $20k/40HKD cash games.I’m sure it’s gna be crazy trip…..!”
