Boylepoker pro John O’Shea is to step into the boxing ring to fight his friend Ross Johnson for charity.
The bout, taking place on December 1 at the Leopardstown Pavilion, Dublin, Ireland will consist three two minute long rounds.
The fight, organized by Rob Smyth is a fundraiser for Irish Motor Neuron Disease.
Smyth said of the pugilists, “I tried to organise a boxing match between Ross and John in Vegas but the two of them got very deep in the WSOP main event, so they did not have the time off, playing up to 13 hours of poker each day.
“I have decided to reorganise the fight here in Dublin for everyone to watch.[They] are being coached by a member of the elite High Performance coaching team, Eddie Bolger who trains Joe Ward (Irish light-heavyweight champion) and many other Olympic champions. At the end of the 8 weeks they will choose a fight name and entrance song”
The pair are currently in training and after the first week Smyth said O’Shea was probably favourite, “Carrying an extra 11kg Ross is trying to strip down over the coming weeks or else he won’t last the first round.
“Ross has the more powerful punch, but how many of them will he get out? John has the speed and endurance but does he have the power? It really is all open but after week 1 John O Shea is favourite.”
Boylesports.com will be offering odds on the bout soon.
