On Thursday in Las Vegas, MGM Resorts International took one of its last steps before obtaining a license to operate online poker in Nevada.
The company appeared in front of the state Gaming Control Board for approval, before going to the Gaming Commission later this month for the final round in the licensure process.
“We are encouraged to know that states are talking to one another,” MGM CEO Jim Murren told Reuters. “They are crafting their own legislation and legal frameworks but are talking with other states in anticipation of compacting with multiple states.”
Nevada public officials and its companies prefer online gambling to be legalized on a federal level. However, if a bill on Capitol Hill never comes to pass, the states would likely form partnerships to create greater liquidity.
MGM was approved by the Control Board, which is now headed by A.G. Burnett after former Chairman Mark Lipparelli resigned last month, according to the Twitter account of Las Vegas Review-Journal reporter Chris Sieroty.
The casino company will utilize the software of bwin.party digital entertainment, which will obtain a Nevada license in the near future.
