Online poker is Spain has grown 35 percent since the introduction of the regulated market in June this year.
The market, as reported by JDigital a non-profit gaming association in the country, grew from €87.3 million spent by players in June to €130.7 million in September making poker a more popular online gaming option than casino and second behind sports betting.
Real money gaming saw the number of players registered almost double in the four month period to September 2012 when 700,000 people had set up accounts with regulated companies.
Online gambling operators in Sapin are taxed at levels up to and including 25 percent. Many market entrants such as Sportingbet, bwin and 888 had to pay significant back taxes to enable them to avail of new licences to operate in the country.
