The Grosvenor UK Poker Tour grand final main event has been won by young British player Sam Grafton who topped the 137-strong field at London’s Grosvenor Casino.

The main event numbers were down 30 percent on the 195 who took part last year but with a similar buy in of £2,500 + £125 the prize pool grew to £342,500 and Grafton took home £102,700 for his victory.

He said after the event, “The quality of the field made it a tough competition – it’s something you can be proud of. The list of the great British pros that I looked up to when I was starting out, they’re all the old GUKPT champions – like Paul Foltyn, Sam Trickett, Karl Mahrenholz. To add your name to that list, it’s great.”

Speaking about his luck at the final table Grafton added, “I did get aces against kings early on, but you work hard, the luck comes your way.”

He started heads up with fewer chips than his opponent Peter Charalambous but within an hour was the champion hitting a flush with the final hand on the river to break Charalambous’ 10-10.

The final table payouts were:
1: Sam Grafton — £102,700
2: Peter Charalambous — £72,800
3: Victor Ilyukhin — £45,400
4: Matt Moss — £28,250
5: Jon Spinks — £22,250
6: George Hassabis — £17,100
7: David Maudlin — £13,700
8: Sandeep Khosa — £10,300
9: Chris Brammer — £7,700
