Michael Linster
Incredibly, this was Linster’s third title from four final table showings in 2013. Linster won two smaller prelims and finished runner-up in another at the Borgata Winter Poker Open. As a result of these four scores Linster has climbed to 17th place in the overall POY standings with 1,608 points and $415,390 in year-to-date earnings.
Linster entered the final table in second chip position, and made it to heads-up play with David Bell holding a 3-to-2 chip advantage. At one point in the 111-hand heads-up battle Bell had extended his lead to more than 9-to-1, but Linster was able to find a few double-ups and regain the lead by the time the final hand arose.
Bell min-raised from the button to 400,000 and Linster three-bet to 1,000,000. Bell moved his stack of roughly 3.8 million in and Linster made the call with the AQ
. Bell held the 8

. The flop brought the J

, keeping Linster in the lead. The turn 4
gave Bell some extra outs with a gutshot straight draw, but the 10
on the river sent the pot ands the title to Linster.
A number notables made deep runs in this event, including Tony Cousineau (7th – $35,691), Benjamin Zamani (9th – $18,669), Matthew Salsberg (10th – $14,277), Daniel Buzgon (12th – $14,277), Raj Vohra (14th – $11,531), David Sands (20th – $8,236), Matt Giannetti (22nd – $8,236) and Anthony Spinella (23rd – $8,236).
