The 2013 World Poker Tour bestbest Jacksonville $3,500 no-limit hold’em main event attracted 351 entrants, building a total prize pool of $1,123,700. The lion’s share of that went to Michael Linster, who earned $322,021 and 900 Card Player Player of the Year points for emerging victorious.
Incredibly, this was Linster’s third title from four final table showings in 2013. Linster won two smaller prelims and finished runner-up in another at the Borgata Winter Poker Open. As a result of these four scores Linster has climbed to 17th place in the overall POY standings with 1,608 points and $415,390 in year-to-date earnings.
Linster entered the final table in second chip position, and made it to heads-up play with David Bell holding a 3-to-2 chip advantage. At one point in the 111-hand heads-up battle Bell had extended his lead to more than 9-to-1, but Linster was able to find a few double-ups and regain the lead by the time the final hand arose.
Bell min-raised from the button to 400,000 and Linster three-bet to 1,000,000. Bell moved his stack of roughly 3.8 million in and Linster made the call with the AQ. Bell held the 86. The flop brought the J52, keeping Linster in the lead. The turn 4 gave Bell some extra outs with a gutshot straight draw, but the 10 on the river sent the pot ands the title to Linster.
A number notables made deep runs in this event, including Tony Cousineau (7th – $35,691), Benjamin Zamani (9th – $18,669), Matthew Salsberg (10th – $14,277), Daniel Buzgon (12th – $14,277), Raj Vohra (14th – $11,531), David Sands (20th – $8,236), Matt Giannetti (22nd – $8,236) and Anthony Spinella (23rd – $8,236).
