World Series Of Poker Main Event -- Steven Gee Finishes In 24th After Final Table Last YearCalifornia Pro Gets Super Close To Another Final Table In The Big One |

One of the best back-to-back World Series of Poker main event performances in the post-Moneymaker era came to an end Monday afternoon in Las Vegas.
Steven Gee, who finished ninth in 2012, made it all the way to the final three tables this year, eventually hitting the rail in 24th place.
Gee was able to acquire some extra chips early in the day, but the uptick didn’t continue. He found himself as one of the short stacks when his elimination occurred.
The action had folded to Gee in the small blind, and he opened to 250,000. Chip leader Anton Morgenstern raised to 550,000 from the big blind. Gee went all in for 2.93 million (about 18 big blinds). Morgenstern called with pocket eights and was up against Gee’s 10 7.
The flop was horrible for Gee, as it fell Q 8 2, giving his opponent a set and leaving Gee with only backdoor draws. The A on the turn had him drawing dead. A meaningless 3 on the river sent a disappointed Gee to the rail.
After Gee’s elimination, followed by the knockout of Yevgeniy Timoshenko, the big name pros still in contention included J.C. Tran, Carlos Mortensen, David Benefield and Mark Newhouse.
