The tragic shooting that happened in the city of Detroit, Michigan this week has a gambling connection.
The shooter, who was wearing body armor, opened fire on the 20 to 30 people in the backroom of the barbershop who were gambling. Three people died in what the Detroit Police Chief called “urban terrorism.” Crime has spiked thanks to the city’s insolvency.
An suspect for the crime has been apprehended, but the name has not yet been released. Law enforcement officials are also trying to figure out if there was more than one shooter.
“It is certainly tragic and it rises up to one of Detroit’s more violent incidents,” Police Chief James Craig said at a televised news conference Thursday, according to the Los Angeles Times. “It is certainly a violent act and what I am calling, urban terrorism.”
The police chief reportedly did not give any indication as to why there was gambling going on in the barbershop and what exactly that had to do with a possible motive for the shooting. It is also unknown if any gambling-related charges will be filed.
At least person in the barbershop returned fire.
In addition to the three deaths, six individuals were wounded.
The weapon reportedly was a high-powered rifle.
