First Taiwan Casino To Open By 2019Government Authorization Will Come This Year: Report |

The local government of Taiwan has said that its first casino will open its doors by the year 2019, Forbes reported on Wednesday.
“Given that the act could be successfully passed in the beginning of year 2014, we optimistically expect that the earliest time the casino could open to public in Matsu is around 2019,” Lin Kuo-shian, director-general of Taiwan’s transportation ministry department in charge of gaming, said.
Efforts at authorizing such business activity have failed in the past, but officials there expect real movement on the issue this year. Taiwan wants to capture some of the gambling market that has boomed in the region over recent years. Nearby Macau just smashed its own record by taking in $45.2 billion from gamblers in 2013.
Taiwan’s “Casino Management Act” would allow its offshore islands to accept bids for Las Vegas-style casinos. It’s unclear right now which firms might be in the mix.
The country has a population of 23.34 million and could be a top gambling market.
