Tribe Clears Hurdle For Massachusetts CasinoMashpee Wampanoag Has Deal With State Not Blocked By Feds |

The Mashpee Wampanoag tribe cleared a crucial hurdle this week in its quest to build one of the three new casinos set to come to the state of Massachusetts.
According to the Associated Press, the U.S. Department of the Interior, Indian Affairs decided not block the new tax agreement the tribe had brokered with the state.
Indian Affairs rejected a previous agreement between the two parties.
The problem for the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe is that it doesn’t have the land to build the casino. It needs to get that from the federal government. The feds were concerned about the tribe not getting a good enough deal from Massachusetts in the casino project.
It remains to be seen if the tribe will actually get the land to build the casino in Taunton.
The deal that the federal government apparently had no issue with calls for the state to receive 17 percent of gaming win if the casino is the only one of its kind in the southeast region of the state. Twenty-one percent would go to the state if it’s the only casino in the state, but that appears unlikely. Currently, Wynn Resorts and MGM Resorts International are strong contenders for building casinos in their respective regions.
