Sometimes making the main event final table isn’t the best for one’s poker life. Italian player Filippo Candio, who was a member of the 2010 November Nine, took to social media last week to announce that he would soon stop playing.

One of the reasons for his retirement is that he’s fed up with reading persistent, and false, rumors that he “committed tax offences.”

“At one time I thought that doing what I did would bring a drizzle of glory and serenity,” he wrote in a Facebook post, translated by Bing.

He closed by saying, “Thanks and goodbye.”

Candio is perhaps best known for being involved in one of the most gut-wrenching suck outs in televised poker history. In the hand below, he got extremely lucky with 7-5 against the pocket aces of Joe Cheong. Candio went on to finish fourth and Cheong third. Check out the hand.
