Despite some minor drama at the tables during the first day of play, the inaugural World Series of Poker $1,500 dealer’s choice event was a success. The field of 419 players created a total prize pool of $565,650.
The unique event allowed players to choose their own game and variation, including games that have never been played at the WSOP before, such as badeucey and badacey. Players even chose to play five-card draw, which had not been dealt at the WSOP since 1982. There were 16 total games that a player could select from.
As the event played out, the player’s became more and more familiar with their opponents strengths and weaknesses, making strategic choices for their game selection based on skill level, position and stack size.
After three days of action, it was none other than Robert Mizrachi who came out on top. Mizrachi, a poker pro from Miami, Florida with over $4.8 million in career earnings, picked up the $147,092 first-place prize and his second WSOP bracelet.
“It’s tough to win,” Mizrachi said. “The players are getting tougher. There’s definitely a lot of pride in winning this event. I’d like to see a higher-buy-in event for this next year, where the big names could all play deeper. It’s a very skilled event. You not only have to know all the games, but you have to pick the games that your opponent’s don’t play as well.”
To capture the victory, Mizrachi overcame a tough final table that included Frank Kassela (6th), Daniel Idema (5th) and Bill Chen (4th). Other notables to make a deep run included Marco Johnson (7th), Melissa Burr (9th), Jennifer Harman (10th), Maria Mayrinck (11th), Brandon Cantu (12th) and Maria Ho (15th).
Here is a look at the final table results.
