An unlucky Pennsylvania man is facing fraud charges after pocketing an ill-gotten $100 from a casino, despite paying the casino back after he was caught.
The 27-year-old gambler allegedly changed up a bet at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, according to The Scranton Times-Tribune. The gambler was playing a Texas hold’em table game back in May when he placed a bet at the beginning of a hand but opted not to place a bet on a bonus bet space. After getting dealt a hand that pays out 20-1 odds on the bonus bet, he put a $5 chip onto the spot, police alleged. He allegedly received the $100 that wasn’t his.
The casino didn’t notice at first, but it eventually figured out what happened and the gambler gave back the $100, admitting to the shady maneuver at the table.
However, admitting to the act and repaying the casino didn’t result in any mercy. The gambler was arraigned on Monday and released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
The parent company of Mohegan Sun has been experiencing a downswing in profits this year and just lost a costly contest with Steve Wynn for the right to build a Boston-area casino.
