A casino in the struggling city of Detroit is spending $1.25 million on road work that it thinks will help its business. Privately-funded road projects similar to this one are reportedly pretty rare.
The state of Michigan has signed off on the plan.
The Greektown Casino-Hotel will be widening an Interstate 375 exit ramp in downtown Detroit that serves the casino, the Associated Press reported.
It will go from one lanes to three lanes.
A spokesperson for the casino said it “will enhance safety and traffic flow in and around Detroit’s Greektown neighborhood and central business district.”
The project, which kicked off this week, is expected to take 10 weeks to finish. The ramp will be closed during non-peek business hours, but still accessible the rest of the time, the report said.
Greektown casino is owned (majority) by NBA owner Dan Gilbert.
