A California tribe has received New Jersey approval to team up with the Borgata in Atlantic City for online gambling in the Garden State, according to the Associated Press.

The Borgata already has online gambling offerings in New Jersey, but the Pala Band of Mission Indians wanted to gain access to New Jersey as well for its online gaming endeavors.

The tribe, which will be the first tribe to get involved with New Jersey’s roughly one-year-old web betting industry, runs the land-based Pala Casino and Spa in San Diego County, California.

According to the report, palacasino.com should go live in the second half of November or early December. Early next year, its palapoker.com site is planned to go live.

Pala is eyeing online poker legalization in California, but it is settling on New Jersey for the time being. California could authorize web poker sometime in 2015.

Revenues for New Jersey’s online gambling industry have been about $100 million since it launched late last year, much less than some were predicting in 2013.

Pala’s online gambling is run by CEO Jim Ryan, former boss at bwin.party.

PartyPoker also has a deal with the Borgata to offer online poker in the Garden State.

The key for Pala will be to gain market share quickly. One online gaming operator, Ultimate Gaming, pulled out of the New Jersey market after failing to find success this year.
