It wasn’t easy, but Alex Jacob won for the fourth time on Jeopardy Wednesday night. This time, he was actually forced to play Final Jeopardy against worthy opponent Becky Hammer.
The 30-year-old former poker pro still went into the final round of the game with lead, having racked up $20,700, but the formidable Hammer used two Daily Doubles to keep pace, going into the last question of the night with $18,600.
We won’t spoil the final question for you, which you can see below, but it resulted in the most profitable day so far for Jacob, having banked $37,201. His four-day total now stands at $109,401, which is just $75,499 away from cracking the top 10 all-time rankings.
For the first time on the show, Jacob was asked about his poker background. Alex Trebek specifically wanted to know about celebrities, and Jacob responded by saying he had played with Tobey Maguire and Pete Sampras.
The biggest winner in Jeopardy history was Ken Jennings, who used a 74-game win streak to pocket $2,520,700. Jacob and fellow poker enthusiast Arthur Chu used an unorthodox, strategy informed by game theory invented in the ’80s by Chuck Forrest to play the game. It involves jumping from category to category, hunting Daily Doubles and betting big to amass huge leads.
Watch Jacob take down his fourth contest below and tune in Thursday night to watch him defend his title.
