A total of 682 players turned out for the 2015 World Series of Poker $3,000 six-max pot-limit Omaha event, building a prize pool of $1,861,860.
In the end it was Belarusian poker pro Vasili Firsau who emerged victorious, taking home his first gold bracelet and the $437,575 first-place prize.
“This is great for me and a great feeling to win this,” Firsau said. “I had many bad years here and this time to come and win – it feels amazing. It was nice to have my friends here with me, as well.”
In addition to the hardware and the money the 38-year-old also earned 1,260 Card Player Player of the Year points. As a result he moved into 77th place in the rankings.
Firsau came into the final table with the chip lead. Right off the bat Daniel Idema, who won his third gold bracelet earlier this summer in the $3,000 H.O.R.S.E., hit the rail in sixth for $53,342 and 240 POY points. As a result of these two big scores he has climbed into 73rd place in the overall standings with 1,320 points and $315,116. Vadzim Markushevski busted in fifth place to set up a four handed battle that continued until play was halted at around 3 AM.
The final four came back rested and things sped up, with four being narrowed down to two in 41 hands. Heads-up play began with Nipun Java holding a slight lead over Firsau, but the Belarusian was able to quickly overtake the lead.
On the final hand Java raised to 600,000 from the button and Firsau reraised, betting the pot. Java called all in with the KJ97 and Firsau revealed the JJ98.
The board ran out 66647 to give Firsau sixes full of jacks to secure the pot and send Java to the rail as the runner up with $270,509 for his deep run.
